The daily life of cats

A question for the group: My wife and I just returned from a trip up to Fairbanks, AK, for my brother’s 50th anniversary. We departed Fairbanks at 1130 pm (midnight) headed to Denver with a follow-on flight to Dulles, VA. A lady with a cat in a large soft-mesh cat carrier (18’‘x18”x24”, hard base, extendable luggage handle to move it around) got on with us, also another lady with a small bulldog in a slightly smaller carrier (not related, and not near each other. The dog was fine, didn’t hear a whimper, let alone a bark. However, the cat, from entry on the plane to getting off 4 hours later in Denver, loudly meowed every 5-15 seconds. Every time you thought the cat was quieting down, it would start up again. We were three rows ahead, wearing noise canceling headphones with music playing, trying to get some sleep, and it was still disturbing. The question: Do you approach the lady and say something, if so what? Do you approach the airline about some reimbursement (we shelled out handsomely for first class expecting to reduce the stress)? I feel sorry for the cat, more sorry for the people closer than we were, not so much the owner! I don’t “know” that the owner didn’t use gabapentin/other, but it sure didn’t seem like it and she wasn’t in any way apologetic for disturbing at least half the people on the plane. The flight attendants said nothing to anyone either!

I wouldn’t say anything to the owner of the cat because what would it get you? Probably just an unwanted argument. Cats listen to no one. :stuck_out_tongue: they do what they want, when they want. Lol…it was probably distressed and hadn’t flown before.

But i’d probably complain to the airline and see if you can get something refunded because even in economy class, it would drive me nuts to listen to constant meowing for an entire trip.

He wishes to register a complaint!

Even on GABA, a cat may meow periodically. Leo did the entire 4 hour drive to the vet specialty clinic even though he was also quite loopy..

Has anyone ever bought this paper for cats? If so, is there a particular kind? The ferocious lion has been going through it like crazy, and is now upset that there’s no new crinkly paper for him! It really is his happy place, so I may just break down and buy some if they refuse the broken-down paper bags as a replacement.

It;s Kraft paper and it comes in rolls. I found some on Amazon that are not too long and therefore not too expensive. It’s a wonder to me why cats like cardboard boxes, made from Kraft paper and plain Kraft paper, True the like any kind of boxes but fresh smelling cardboard boxes are divine.

Yeah, they gave a big thumbs down to paper bags. And they don’t like cardboard boxes at all, for some reason. I’m ordering a roll. Big bootied Meko likes his tunnels, but insists on pouncing on the nest and squishing it. There’s only so many times I can fluff it up@

@Mariethm are you the Marie in Massachusetts? If so, I have an ENORMOUS roll of Kraft paper the kitties are welcome to! Let me know!

@JessicaD yes, I am that Marie! In Medford, not too far from you! I just bought a small roll to test out, but they say it’s the wrong kind! (So many choices, and I made the wrong one. Meko is giving me disappointed looks, while Milo is half-heartedly patting at it). If you ever find yourself heading this way or would like to meet up for a coffee, send me a message. The kitties would greatly appreciate it, and it would be a fun excuse!

I would love to meet up! Hopefully my paper is the right kind…. I will be back in MA consistently in Sept and up for a coffee! Coincidentally my daughter had volleyball camp in Medford (Tufts) a few weeks ago and took the newly-extended green line to and from and thought it was terrific! Can’t wait to meet up in person! xoxo

@JessicaD Hopefully you’re up north relaxing for now! Tufts has put major money into their sports facilities and that green line extension. (Hubby is the tennis coach for Somerville High School girls team, and they use the old Tufts tennis courts) I hope your daughter had fun! Yes to coffee when you’re around.

Meko has taken to loudly ripping up the new paper while Milo lays on it despondently. Passive-aggressive cats are hilarious!

My husband calls his dad every night after dinner. Then it’s treats time for the boys. Now they see him pick up the phone and lay in wait.
