@MapleSugar Well strike me down, if I knew that, I’d forgotten it! Look up “superfecundation”! Appears to be an actual thing! And…it can apparently happen in humans too!

Rabbits too they can give birth to 2 litters separated by an interval without additional breeding

Yeah, one of the Kitty Connection rescues had a litter of 10!, from getting pregnant while already pregnant. Poor girl barely made it, emergency hysterectomy and long hospital stay after. (Last I heard, she’s ok, but still resting up after everything)

I think Mama cat and babies, well hardly babies now, are have decided that I am not completely evil and am the source of food and water.
One of the kits almost came up to me. Today the mama wanted to go to the food bowls while I was standing a little away. She couldn’t quite do it. But she does not hiss or growl at me any more.
Baby steps or should I say kitten steps

That’s also why a mama cat can give birth to kittens with different coat colors and patterns.
