Whenever I see our kitties or dogs laying down with their front paws crossed I like to think that they’re praying.
We just got home from SLC with Leo. He’s eating well and acting normally but is very confused about why he has to stay in a room by himself…for 2 weeks with only limited contact with the staff. The doctor who examined and treated him was so gentle and thorough. The techs texted me every day and reported on how he was doing. In about a month he goes back to our local vet for follow-up tests, then again 2 months after that.
Glad that Leo is better. I know our cats would not like being isolated from their humans and each other.
Funny Sheilah story, just now after lunch and from Church I sat down in my recliner. “Oh good, my man is back.” She jumped up and instead of settling down sniffed my arm in several places. “Where you been, you been touching other people?” Then she lay down for a nap.
We lost two of our kitties to cancer, Lovey and Frankie. We were catless for a short while, but couldn’t stand it. We went to a local no kill shelter and adapted Manny O and Sheelah.
I’d been feeding a feral mama cat and her litter in our old barn. The babies would scatter and hide wherever I came, all but one.
She would look me right in the eyes with her sweet face. Later when she was a little bigger and outside I would see her and a brother. He would dive right into the food bowl, but sister would rub all over my shoes while I gave her pets.
I told my wife about her. She said to bring her in the house. I put her in a carrier, when it was opened she sauntered out like she was home, no fear.
Anyway none of our cats care about people food except Biddy. She is not a hog but will insist on having a bit of smoked ham or bacon. Otherwise she prefers Cat Chow.
Funny creatures we have living with us.
A post on the less pleasant side of living with our fur friends - the litter box.
A couple of years ago I broke the plastic scoop. I bought a metal one at one of the big box pet stores. Much more expensive than the plastic ones, but worth every dollar.
Meko yells at me to clean the litter box every time Milo uses it. They have 2 available, but he still gets mad if I don’t race in and clean it!
Leo has completed his first week of quarantine and we are both so ready to be done with it! One thing I’ve learned about litter box behavior is that Leo appears to be the only one to use the upstairs litter boxes ‘cos I haven’t had to scoop those at all this week!
MINE! MINE! MINE! Nobody better use them, I will know!
Sweetie made a liar out of me right after I posted!
Well, Leo ii in solitary
I was hoping to let Leo out of “solitary” today but he’s still quite a bit radioactive according to my husband’s geiger counter. Leo did have to have the largest dose of radioiodine the clinic is authorized to give so perhaps we should have expected this, Sigh….
Update on Leo: He’s much less “hot” and we have been letting him out of isolation during the daytime. Unfortunately, I realized on Friday that he had lost a lot of weight (1 pound) just in the last week or 10 days! I am taking him to the vet today for his bloodwork and checkup. Hyperthyroidism can mask a lot of other health problems—kidney disease, diabetes, heart disease—and the radioiodine treatment may have revealed one of these. I will report back when I have his test results.
Keeping my fingers crossed Leo has a good Dr appt.
We had 3 non- feral guys show up at our house, first Tony, next Eddie and last was Leo. Leo was the guard cat, taking care of those 2 doofuses. One day I saw him leap off of the porch heading straight for the gate, turning in in a brushy area,
I was right behind him and was shocked to see a half grown bobcat. Leo was ready for a scrap, but fortunately Bobby was not interested, finally sauntering off.
I miss those 3 guys. We no longer let our kitties be outside. Cars, trucks and coyotes, oh my!
Tony is in the rear, Leo on the left and Eddie on the right.
I sse that Tony and Eddie are asleep, but Leo is wide awake and on guard duty.
Hoping your Leo is on the road to recovery.
Leo’s blood pressure is up, probably because his T4 is also way up, in fact, it’s worse than it was at intake for the radioiodine treatment. He’s back on methimazole (and a higher dose of BP medication) and will have another follow-up in two weeks. My vet is both very puzzled and very concerned.
Sending lots of love to you and Leo
No pictures and hoping the best on Leo.
I found it very relaxing and stress relieving when a cat is on me and grooming. It’s something about the gentle rocking motion. Sometimes they grace me with a lick or 3 which is nice.
Now huge Manny climbed on my chest last night (stealing my breath ) and gave my nose a couple of licks. Oh what he usually likes to do is to kneed my belly like it’s a tough piece of dough.
Gotta love 'em they give much more than they take.
