Just shows she loves ya!
The easiest thing to do would be to just get a basic low end android phone with a data plan. No hoops to jump through for setup and you can see exactly what your wife is seeing on her phone next to your son.
Just think of it as a Dexcom receiver, not a phone.
The only other easy solution is use Dexcom share. You can set that up in settings> sync settings.
Edit: Oops settings> cloud upload
My husband has both xdrip and Dexcom follow on his Android phone. Samson’s phone has Dexcom Share on his iPphone and he’s “shared” with us – I have Dexcom follow as well on my iPhone.
Also, if you’ve set up the NightsScout website you can navigate to it via browser on your phone. So we have ours set up with something like:
http://sambg.herokuapp.com or whatever, and I just have a shortcut to that tab set up on the phone.
Okay, so are the two images below reflective of your configuration as well as what ours should be?
Your families Configuration
What our configuration should be (wife (wife’s phone) and son are always together…wife’s phone IS the “share” phone.)
Almost. On your configuration your wife’s phone does not need Dexcom share. Just set xDrip to upload to the Dexcom Share server directly. Settings> Cloud Upload is where you set this up.
@TiaG Does your husband’s x XDrip+ app on his phone have data populated by the Dexcom follow app? Or does the data download from Night Scout? I was not aware that either was possible.
Okay, strange…I installed Follow on my iPhone and it’s now working after setting up the Cloud info, but the strange part is that my son’s Android xDrip+ is now reading, “Signal missed 34 minutes ago.” It doesn’t seem to be updating anymore??
How is my Follow app on my iPhone updating if the app that’s SENDING the data (the Android xDrip+ app) isn’t receiving data?
It’s now reading “Signal Missed 41 Minutes ago.”
@ClaudnDaye That’s pretty weird. Do you have a track that is a continuation of where your son’s left off? Is the Dexcom receiver on and picking up the BLE signal?
When you get spotty readings with xDrip+ go to settings>G5 Debug. Make sure “Scan for G5 constantly” and “Authenticate before each reading” are checked, then go to System Status and click the “Restart Collector” button. Readings should resume shortly. You should be getting about a 95-99% capture rate by tomorrow.
Both of those were checked. Here’s what I see at present…I did click the “Restart Collector” just now so maybe it’ll pick back up.
This won’t be a feasible substitute for us, though, if these disconnects happen often!
@ClaudnDaye I do remember that when I first started with xDrip+ it was a few days of 50% capture rate, and then it picked up to 90%. Now it’s consistently at 97-99%.
The G5 phone guide shows a good capture rate for the S7, so it should work.
90 min no signal now. Restarted collector about 23 minutes ago now?
You might try to reboot the phone. It’s possible that it is a Bluetooth error. I use my watch exclusively as the collector and a Note 4 as the Sync master. Sometimes the phone has a Bluetooth meltdown and the watch becomes unconnected (but it is still reading the transmitter). A phone reboot always solves the problem.
Edit: I looked closely at your pictures and don’t see a location icon in the status bar. Location MUST be enabled for the receiver to work properly.
Also, the power is low and this may have something to do with the phone’s power saving routine.
Your picture is accurate for our familly’s set up.
As for yours, the problem is you can’t use Dexcom Follow unless his phone has Dexcom Share…and that is only approved for iPhone.
So you *can remotely follow him at work, you’d just need to use your azure site to download data.
ETA: Maybe there is a way to pick up Dexcom Follow data without share. I’m not sure how though – we basically use Night Scout as our data repository and that means anyone with almost any phone that runs a browser will work.
Sorry I’m more of a math person than a techy-geary person, so I hope I’m getting this all right. My husband is the one who set up the technology aspect.
@TiaG Actually, XDrip+ will upload to Dexcom Share servers from the Android phone, so Follow is possible from Android to iPhone.
so I’m not sure … My husband says it will definitely upload to either Night Scout or Dexcom Share from xdrip. But he was using it differently because he was using the old (expired) transmitter on himself and pairing directly with his Android phone just to see his BG readings. He doesn’t use Xdrip now much because he just looks at NightScout or Follow to see my son’s BG.
Anyways, now I think I’ve gotten all confused after trying to hear his explanation. Hope that is not more confusing.
@TiaG Makes perfect sense!
Well, something’s definitely broken. Restarted, shut down phone multiple times, restarted collector a couple times, refreshed…going on 3 hours now no signal.
ugh, so sorry! Wish I could Fedex or Teleport my husband out there for a few hours to help troubleshoot. Hope it gets fixed soon.
@ClaudnDaye Could you post the event log? (3 dot menu upper right). It should have some clues as to what’s going on.
@ClaudnDaye, did you get it to work? We are looking at switching from iPhone Dexcom app to an Android setup.
