The daily life of cats

We have two orange/marmalade cats. The wife and I judge vacuum detail by how many additional cats we think are hiding in the carpet! So, while it looks like a lot…I’m not so sure!

I got these photos over a 30 minute span…but was not quick enough to catch Sweetie sliding off the couch! :joy_cat:

She was such a tiny girl at the shelter when she insisted I set her free. Been ordering me around every since, but we’re made for one another😁

While Sheelah’s queen of the house Biddy is the sweetheart. Took this pic this morning.

Fireworks displays happened all over our neighborhood last night. Sweetie hid under a recliner chair (finally came out for treats and some cuddling) and MM tensed up and just hunkered down till it was over. (Leo and Sophie didn’t seem perturbed.) We closed the windows and shades, which helped some, and tonight I am going to add some Gabapentin (anti-anxiety medicine) to their Fancy Feast and hope for the best. Paws crossed!

Just had to share…I’m going to start cat fostering in a couple of days!!!
One of my main reasons for moving to a larger place was to adopt cat(s). But I realized that I can’t decide on any ONE cat to give a home to. So I’m excited to be working (volunteering) with Kitty Connection to take care of lots of cats and find them homes. Only one at a time, though; I’m not THAT brave/crazy. I’ll make sure to post pics.
I’m soooo excited.

@Mariethm One of wife’s friends from working at FTC (now the head honcho) is fostering cats as well. On our last visit they had at least five! They ensure neutering so the kitties can’t become breeders. Not sure how they cope with the numbers and impact to home life/furniture; its nice to visit and be the center of attention (new kid on the block syndrome), but not sure I could live the lifestyle. Thanks for your efforts!

I love to go to my friend’s house and play and cuddle with all the foster kitties. She says this helps to socialize them, too. So invite your cat friends over to “help”…and maybe they’ll adopt some of your fosters (like I did)!

Meet Harvey! About 5 yr old male. Very chill. He’s been coughing and sneezing since I got him yesterday, so his chillness may be partially due to not feeling well. He had an appt already set up for today, so hopefully the vet addresses that. Snuggly guy. Was basically glued to me for a few hours after coming out of his safe room. Insists on being around humans and stole my husband’s spot on the couch!
Edit: I did Not pose him with the squishmallows. He found it to be the cosiest spot after trying many

Hope he get well quickly and gives you many years of fun and photo ops. Good looking guy.

@CarlosLuis Unfortunately he’s not for keeps. Part of my “job” is to make him as attractive as possible to potential forever humans. Hopefully I’ll get good training on screening them. I can imagine saying, “You’re not worthy!”

@Mariethm What a cutie Harvey is! The orange tabbies usually have great personalities, but as with many things it’s highly variable. We learned living in the UK they call them “marmalade” cats! Our two are Gilbert and Sullivan, brothers from the same litter; we got them at a shelter, both had Feline Lukemia, one has had a “leaky” left eye (that’s Sullivan), he’s also a bit mouthy (loud pur and meows), loves to play rough with my hand, but knows not to bite too hard, with limited claw exposure. Gilbert, on the other hand, is the quiet one, rarely meows (more squeaks), quiet purr, doesn’t play “hand” near as much, doesn’t have a clue how sharp his teeth are let alone discretion on how hard to bite. They’re nine now, but I fondly remember when I could hold both in one hand!

@TomH I think he had a cold the first few days, so as with all sick animals, he was lethargic and not himself. Finally started playing this morning, eating wet food and exploring! Was totally happy to be slung over my shoulder and smell all the high places. He’s a funny little guy, and I wonder what situation he came from, because he keeps on almost asking permission to play.
Unfortunately, my mentor was pushing me to do a virtual visit with a potential forever home yesterday, and they weren’t really interested in a sleepy cat. I’m going to try to get videos of him playing (after his long nap) to see if I can entice her…

Oh, no! I turned him into a lap cat (no one wants a non-lapcat.:disappointed_relieved:)

I’ve been trapped here for an hour now, and this guy can sleep 8+ hours straight!
It turns out he’s probably closer to 9 yrs old. .

Aren’t you the lucky one😎

If he’s a “marmalade” and nine yrs old, he may be beyond the “all the time” playing kittie mode (may apply to others too!). The one’s we’ve had over the years reached the point with age they’d have bursts of energy to run around attacking things (play mice that rattle, hair scrunchies, scrunchy pads, and each other [we’ve mostly had two at a time]), but mostly like to “luxuriate” in specific areas. Gilbert can be found on our bed, in our closet, or sunny spot in our extra bedroom. Sullivan can be found anywhere we are, usually laying down behind our feet in the kitchen. The bursts of energy usually happen(ed) after eating (protein spike from the meal?) and intermittently otherwise with no apparent cause. For the most part after 7 or 8 years, they’re more of the “I think I’ll snooze in the sunny spots around the house!” or occupy a cat tree or occupy your lap in the evening (similar to your pics!). My wife’s frequent comment: “I think I’d like to come back and be one of our cats!”
