This is good news despite the bad situation. Maybe a silver lining
Heard back from the captainā¦ I suggested Iād order pizzas for each of the people isolated inside their room today to boost moraleā¦ he said thatād be a nice idea but theyāve lost their sense of taste (I had wondered if that bit was real). He said he doused his breakfast in tobasco sauce and could feel the burning on his lips but couldnāt taste it. Also said heād developed a fever of 101 and continuing to rise. This is a very fit ~42 yo marathon runner.
Omg, another case, sorry. I have heard thst losing your sense of taste is a symptom:-(
I hope you can observe social distancing adequately!
The loss of smell/taste is very real. So far, everyone I know who has had a symptomatic COVID infection reports it. One of the symptoms I keep an eye out for as much as fever etc.
My Corona garden grew a massive turtle!
It turns out that I am quite an amazing gardener after all! I grow animals!
That is awesome!
This is Ted the Toad. He is our pea gravel beach manager.
I know he is a toad bc I have little boys. And they taught me that toads do not have webbed feet. Ted the Toad has individual toes and he does not appreciate my black labās curiosity.
ETA: Iām not sure why my photos are all posting sideways.
Maybe your point of view marches to a different drummer?? LOL
I see youāve been comparing notes with my husband!
Great minds think alike @T1Allison. ā¦ just saying ( and chuckling}
So our pediatrician participated in a Covid-19 vaccine study today. She was either injected with the hopeful vaccine or a small amount of saline.
The study took place in a small town nearby. Evidently this town has some kind of special donut. So my pediatrician videoād herself with her local traditional donut and coffee after getting her study injectionā¦talking about how cool it was that they gave her a donut and how cool this study is and how it might help the worldā¦
ā¦and this absolute nut job whom sheās friends with posts the first comment as, āWhy are they giving you a donut??? Sugar is soooo bad for the immune system!ā
I really feel that this lady missed the point. And I really donāt feel that donut warrants three question marks.
Lordy. Letās keep our eye on the ball, folks. Sheesh.
I opted for switching to online school for my boys two days before start bc (1) our local community spread is bananas (2) School wasnāt educating parents on the district policy of screening your kidsā symptoms before sending them to school (but they sent out 5 million videos on car rider and cafeteria changes) and (3) I didnāt trust other parents to follow guidelines that our school wasnāt sharing.
1.Four known positives went to school on Day 1. (At least one kid who went to school was waiting on pending Covid test results from the week prior.)
2. I was picking up math books today when I saw a girl get sent home for vomiting within the first five minutes of school. The mom asked when her daughter could come back and the school nurse shrugged and said she could come back whenever she is fever free for 24 hours. [Note: Thatās not the right answer. She would have known that if the school had educated anyone on the district reopening guidelines.]
3. Got a phone call tonight that another class is quarantined because of exposure from last week.
4. Our pediatrician says none of the schools are following guidelines for symptoms and quarantine.
Ugh.
I think you made a smart call. It appears that the universities arenāt off to a good start either:
After a week, UNC has reverted to online only after having found 135 on-campus positives out of 945 tests. Their spokesperson said they were lucky that virtually all of the positives were symptomatic. Gee, with 14% positivity, donāt you think theyād want to run more tests to find all of the asymptomatic students that are still flooding the bars? And this from a major research university ā¦ I fear we (the US) are not going to get beyond this.
Stay safe!!!
John
90% + of schools that have already opened to in person education are having problems. Usually within the first week.
There are always parents that send kids to school sick thinking that they need to work and canāt take the day off.
We are doing distance because i am at high risk due to other health issues. My wife teaches Kinder and every year there are parents that dope their kids up with Tylenol hoping that they will last at schoolā¦ Usually in a few hours at most the kids are sick and the parents are coming to get them.
The official stance on Vomiting /fever is generally 24 hrs without a fever/ vomiting (and no Tylenol)
However with covid everything has changed and they need to stay home longer or get a covid test.
Primary schools here in Spain open on 10Sept and secondary on the 15th. No money for following through with guidelines and ratios. Total shitshow. Homeschooling is illegal and everyone is back in for in-person schooling. We are as good as, or worse than, back to where we started. And Thardt3408, how right you are about parents sending their kids to school when sick. I used to teach primary and kids would be coughing up a lung showing up to school. My teacher friends are not happy.
My pediatrician has a hard time getting PPE still as she is a small practice and she is not guaranteed any supplies through any supplier. She is still working off of donations of masks and gloves.
As of today, she said that needles are now āallocatedā. I assume that means that not just anyone can order themā¦or that they typically only are accessible to larger practices or hospitals. Maybe? In any case, it seems to me that it was something she used to be able to order without issue and now there is an issue due to Covid supply and demand.
I went onto Amazon to order more BD syringes for my own rainy day supply and they now require a business account and healthcare account for ordering. I have never seen that beforeā¦and they definitely didnāt require that the last time that I ordered them.
@T1Allison I have been noticing similar requirements since C-19 started. I usually find several vendors lower in the results list that donāt require a business acct or the product is listed as a veterinary product (and is the exact same as the human product).
Your medical clinic should have no issues getting what they need at the whsle/broker level. I purchase PPE for work and find any needed medical based PPE at either CIA Medical/Chicago or my local laboratory supply. I usually try to tag on my personal syringe/needle order to the work PO for better pricing and easier accessibility.
Thatās what I do!
I just ordered some today from Amazon and it did not require anything special. Maybe it depends on the state you live in, or what you are ordering?
Tell me what you need, and I can try to get it.
How about some 0.3 ml BD syringes with 1/2 unit markings? Is 8mm okay?
