The Crazies Are Out - Covid 19

yes, everything right now doesn’t just feel like a dumpster fire right now, it is one. :frowning: I am cringing thinking about COVID numbers in two weeks; there’s no way that massive protests throughout the country are not going to cause some spikes.

Just discovered a new thing that sold out in the early weeks of the pandemic: Boat Oars.

I went to four sporting good stores to buy a plastic fishing boat. Finally succeeded.

But they have no oars.

Would not have guessed that one!

Strawberry picking.

In camo.

So that we can sneak up on the berries.

[Btw, on MDI post-two pregnancies, my bg was so nuts that I was even nervous when my husband came along on these outings bc I’d be out in the fields and would get sudden drops that felt scarier to me in a dynamic situation. Now life is great and I take my kiddos solo and that’s a huge QOL improvement for me. I even take the kiddos swimming solo now which I never ever ever would have done before. Non-diabetic families don’t understand the magnitude of those changes for me.:muscle::heart:]

We are in the midst of razor clam season and got lucky and grabbed the last PVC razor clam tube at our local sporting goods store. I wouldn’t have guessed boat oars, but when we take our kayaks out on the river things are pretty crowded so nothing surprises. Hopefully you snuck up on plenty of strawberries, I like picking blueberries because you don’t have to bend over so much!

We picked 21 pounds! :blush::blush::blush:

Congratulations on your great A1c!

That is a lot of strawberries for strawberry floats, cheesecake, etc. Maybe freeze some, too! Love strawberries in moderation, of course, one or two at a time when going low! :strawberry:

I saw the lights of two aircraft at cruise altitude in formation tonight. And then they disappeared. With no clouds in the sky to obstruct my view.

So my best guesses are:

  1. Military jets
  2. Aliens who looked down and decided this was not a good planet to beam anybody up from right now.

Because military jets are so uncommon, I vote for #2. But honestly, they probably just don’t want Covid. I wouldn’t take it personally. /s

My husband votes that they were Starlink satellites based on what I told him.

They were 10x brighter than the other satellites I saw. (Which Starlinks are brighter)

But they disappeared when they had about another 100 degrees to go before they reached the horizon but they straight up disappeared

They did not appear on the NightSky app and other satellites did last night. And I had no problem seeing other satellites for their full travel across the sky.

Aliens. Or Military. But probably Aliens with good judgment who said, “Pass!”

Military helicopter just passed over. They are not typically seen here.

Not worried or whatever but that is kinda funny after last night.

Please please please tell me that you have initiated a tinfoil hat protocol within your household. Otherwise the mind control beams will get you. Take this seriously, you have been warned.

So interesting to me these small snapshots into other people’s lives… I pictured you living in a high rise tower in manhattan… I don’t know anything about NY though— never been there

I think we should have a “get to know you” thread

I live in Brooklyn Heights, a neighborhood which is mostly made up of landmarked brownstones and narrow tree lined streets. its a small community in downtown Brooklyn. and although I have lived here all of my life (my dad still lives down the block and around the corner), I moved into a building complex with my husband years ago. our building faces the NYC skyline.(very nice perk) when we bought our home, $$$ were extremely reasonable, but over the years the Heights has become very chic and desirable, so the costs skyrocketed. People started moving into another area called DUMBO (stands for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Underpass) and when that filled up, they moved into a tiny nook called Vinegar Hill (all cobble stones and very quaint.)

Right before Brooklyn was all filled up, skyscrapers were being built one after another, so quickly that it was unbelievable. one after the other after the other. Some of the tallest buildings I have ever seen. But, unfortunately they had no quaint style and did not complement the neighborhood in any way whatsoever. an unfortunate eye sore.

But now Brooklyn is all filled up so people r checking out the other boroughs, like Queens and the Bronx and even Staten Island.

Of course, with the pandemic, and with people getting laid off, etc, I doubt we could even sell our home for half of what it was worth. And all those recently built skyscrapers won’t even b filled bc no one can afford to buy apartments in them.

so thats a piece of my personal history. Hopefully I satisfied some of ur curiosity :+1:

and btw, bc we live next to ALL of Brooklyn’s court houses, and despite the fact that our area is filled with armed police, we r a center for all of the latest protests and some of the terrible rioting in NYC. I can’t even leave my home today bc they is a particular protest in the park near where I live.

we also have a curfew now from 8pm-6am .

SO, “The Crazies Are Out - Civid 19” right here right now.

I visited Fire Island in 1986. It was the year Parting Glances came out, with Steve Buscemi in his second movie role, and it felt strange to find myself there so soon after seeing the movie. I remember the blueberries, and a “secret” patch of luscious black and salmon-coloured raspberries and an elderly woman who wore a straw boater and would let us pick them if we promised to bring her a slice of pie. I made a pie every day. I didn’t test in those days, and probably never went below 400 all week. A bittersweet week in the midst of another pandemic.

I had Junior’s coleslaw for lunch today. It’s the best. Thanks for the memories.
