Noticed something today about the iPhone app that I’m not loving.
My pod lost connection with the G7. It was doing the try to reconnect thing that says it might take 25 minutes.
I attempted to bolus and the app would not allow me to. It just kept trying to get the sensor value from the pod and then saying bolus unavailable every time. It would not allow me to enter a sensor value myself as the controller would have allowed in the past.
I then switched to manual mode thinking this would solve the issue but same error as well. I also restarted the phone as well.
Just a FYI to you all. I guess if my G7 won’t connect in the future and I want to bolus I will have to delete the sensor from my app and see if that works.
@Josie By any chance is your pod using the new InPlay BLE component instead of the TWI component Omnipod used to use? Also, do you have an iPhone 16, Pro or similar? I ask because Loop and Trio users have reported problem with these set ups, not all of them but many. It doesn’t seem logical; you’d think Insulet would test for the compatibility. It’s being worked on by the Loop/Trio dev’s for those DIY software AIDs, no solution found as yet. The only recommendation has been to find a person local still obtaining supplies of pods with the TWI set up. You can tell by slightly different label on the InPlay version, see the link: 2025-06-10 - News from Loop and Learn .
@Josie, I have had a sort of similar problem but with the Dexcom G7 app and not the Omnipod 5 app. If I have had my phone out of range for a long while such as an hour or two and then grab the iPhone and open the G7 app…it first displays whatever my BG was a few hours ago and then slowly updates the number one reading at a time until it catches up. I am almost certain it is a memory overload issue with my phone and I probably need to delete something…
The whole process of displaying an up to date reading can take 90 seconds or more. It makes me feel kind of dumb to sit there staring at my phone while the BG value keeps changing so if that happens I usually will go to the Omnipod 5 app to check my BG while waiting for Dexcom to update it’s readings. I have iPhone SE current version. So far I have not seen a delay in the Omnipod app bolus feature like you have seen even when the Omnipod app is slowly waiting to connect and get a sensor value…it lets me enter a BG value to bolus. I wonder if you should delete the Omnipod app and re install it?
Also I have not had those types of phone app issues because I have switched to syringe and Affezza for most boluses. This comes in handy if I don’t trust the pod to quickly inject a bolus, I have had long standing concerns about absorption issues with pods. It also takes the Omnipod app calculator out of the picture for things like a large correction bolus…I go to Affrezza for those to speed things up.
Josie’s problem sounds worrisome. Did you try telling the pod that you had a new sensor and then go through that connection process again? What did you do to resolve the situation? I’m using the G7 and Omnipod 5 on an iPhone 15, and while I’ve had plenty of connection outages between the devices, I’ve never had an Omnipod that wouldn’t let me bolus for any reason.
John58, your Dexcom G7 slow update behavior is also one I haven’t encountered. What makes you believe that it’s a memory problem on the phone, though I don’t doubt that could be the reason. Restarting the phone is what I’d try first, though.
I waited about 15 minutes until the sensor connected to the pod again. Then I bolused. If this happens again I will delete the sensor and try to bolus.
I wasn’t connecting a new sensor during this situation. It was a three day old G7 and I had placed my pod a little too far from it so it was only connecting every 20 minutes or so.
I don’t have an iPhone, but I ran into memory issues with the G7 app on my phone with Android 16. I got an alert a few days ago that if I didn’t clear some phone memory, I would start losing historical readings (the 90 day overview, for example). Cleared up some photos and videos and haven’t gotten the alert since.
