She is one of the most patient people on this board, this must be one of her superpowers.
Thanks for the update @Eric
I talked to DM this morning. Her spirits sounded pretty good. She has been able to read some FUD but has not been able to post yet. She is going to try today, so I will leave most of the details for her to post.
Here is a quick update on what is going on with her. She is able to walk, but only with the help of a walker. She canāt lift her legs without help. A lot of pain, going to PT several times a day.
She got her sourdough bread delivered yesterday, so yay for that!
Hi EVERYONE!!! its me, DM Hereās the real scoop:
my surgery was 9 hours. I went to the recovery room for 2 hours and then off to recovery unit in hospital. when I stablized I went to a more specialized osteoporosis recovery unit. right now I am on a post-op PT recovery unit. the hope. is that I will only be here 2-3 more weeks.
zi am receiving 3 straight hours of PT every day, and it is excruciating . more of a workout than swimming was!!!
I cant write anymore now, but maybe tomorrow. I want to thank you for ALL of your prayers and generous gifts. my favorite gift of all was the magnificent card . I have it with me under my pillow and reread it every day.
my is right bk at yuh.
DM
Thank you for updating us!! I remember reading your original thread on swimming, all the while thinking, this person is so meticulous and dedicated, and your writing was entertaining as well as heartfelt. I think these traits serve you well now. I know you will be fully dedicated and focused on your 3 hours of PT just like you were with your swimming. Sending hugs and prayers to help you along with your PT and your full recovery.
Thank you for thinking of US right now, @daisymae! We know you have a super full plate, and the fact that you let us be a part of your journey is appreciated!!
That looks great! Just listened to Juicebox with the Waltzing the Dragon lady about bolusing for fat. Think that answers the rise Iād experienceā¦.but it looks worth the effort!
Have been keeping you in my thoughts! Glad to hear the surgery went well. Keep in mind, you want a PT person that is compassionate, but makes you cry or nearly cry. My wifeās first day conversation started with, āIām not your friend, you will hate me some daysā¦.ā Little Annie, was almost 5ā tallā¦but knew her stuff and weāre thankful for her efforts! Best wishes for the best recovery possible!
@daisymae so happy to see you check in! And although it may not have been part of the plan, it seems like an excellent choice to be at a specialized recovery unit. You know youāll get the spot-on right PT to get things working the right way again. But I can imagine that the daily PT is absolutely draining. I wish we could be there with grilled cheeses and chocolate and anything else you were craving after your sessions! We could watch Ted Lasso together. Keeping you in my thoughts xoxo - Jessica
THE LATEST UPDATE:
(Two weeks post op)
I write this as I actually am sitting up in bed. huge challenge, but you guys are more than worth it.
I was able to eat a nice breakfast of 2 servings (they are small here) of oatmeal. Yummy. Tummy still very messed up from all of the anesthesia but I was able to manage. most of you know how I will suffer though ANYTHING. in order to eat
They changed my pain meds from Dilaudid to Oxycontin, which allowed me a decent night sleep. Still in soooo much pain and very bruised and swollen (4 surgical sites, the longest a little over a foot down my spine).
Its very hard to move, and I require assistance just to adjust my legs in bed and especially to get both in and out of bed. I am, however able to walk, albeit slowly, with a walker for limited times.
PT and OT are ridiculously strenuous and painful, but as I have said before, if I can learn how to swim for 2 hours, I can learn how to push through this pain and walk up and down a flight of stairs and down a hallway.
I was introduced to a new way of self grooming. They pull a chair up to the sink and it is just the right height for me to do what I need to do.
GROSS: I have not been allowed to shower yet bc of all of the stitches, but hopefully next week theyāll be teaching me how to use a shower.
signing out,
DM
Step by step, DM. I have complete confidence in your ability to get a full recovery.
Hang in there DM. We are sending our best thoughts and prayers your way!
You fit right in with evidently the new celebrity trendā¦lol (not sure why google thinks I care, but Iāve seen this story way too many times the last week and now Iām posting itš)
Get to feeling better!!
Yes, my thoughts exactly! You are really going through a tough recovery, and our hearts and prayers are with you. I know you are one tough gal who puts her all into accomplishing her goal. Iām glad to hear the new pain medication is helping to get through the nights, and hope very soon you will be walking up and down the hallway, pain free. Sending hugs and prayers.
Hi everyone!
I got a message from DM tonight.
She said she is doing pretty well. Really enjoying the food at the hospital and is gaining a lot of weight. She is happy to have her pump back and has control of her dosing again, and her BG is really great now. She was able to get some of her sourdough bread today. Yay!
She wanted to post a pic but couldnāt do it from her phone, so she sent it to me and asked me to post it.
I wasnāt sure what the context of the picture was , so I took a little creative license with the caption. But the rest is legit DM.
Thanks, Eric!!! So glad DM is doing better, AND that she has her pump back on and has control of her own BGs!!!
One of manyā¦too many to count
@daisymae Iām super glad the surgery went well, and I know you have a long road ahead. I also know from all the threads here you are a fighter, and even fighters lose focus at times (especially after such and arduous surgery). Even Rocky. This isnāt to suggest that you ever would lose focus on your goals and recovery, but rather if in case you find yourself on a strange path maybe this might help.
āSuccess is the sum of small efforts repeated day in and day outā which every fighter (like you Ms DaisyMae) knows. Try your best in the moment. The big picture will take care of itself. We are here for you whatever you need. Today learning to sit up, tomorrow walking, the futureā¦the world.
@daisymae, hereās a little Idaho sunshine for you this morning!
Hi everyone! I got a txt from DM last night. She asked me to post it because itās hard for her to use her computer right now when lying in bed.
Here it is:
āGot the go on leaving for home Monday!
Have to arrange my house to accommodate my needs. Have to buy certain things like bath-bars and bed bars, etc. everything has to be measured properly from the PT Iāve used in the hospital and made appropriate for me( basically customized) but my insurance covers it all ( phew) I get a health aid and a PT worker 3 days a week for 3 weeks or so, and then I go to the hospitalās PT on my own dime if needed( hopefully wonāt need it though) thatās all the latest news. Sounds good and exciting so far. Scared but excited and looking forward to being in my own home and playing with my car Oscar( I really miss him!!!)
Maybe u could post this on FUD for me as is cause itās too difficult for me to use my laptop ā
