It looks like it worked after all- it just took several more hours after I tried to sync the apps and installed things for anything to happen (far longer than last time). Everything eventually installed and now the Xdrip watch face is up and stable. Now I just have to deal with the few annoyances of Wear 2.0, but other than that I’m back up and running. That’s great you got everything to work together!
I know when I first set up my watch it took about fifteen minutes for everything to get over to it. Your experience would convince me to not try to get an Android 2.0 watch

Sorry, I was on vacation.
Can’t help. UsIng only the watchface at my pebble.
So far, as I know, gps must be enabled while doing the first connection to the android wear watch.
