Bluejay gts watch

Hi all, hope you’re all well.

I’ve a bluejay gts watch that I’ve been successfully using in conjunction with my dexcom G6 for the last 4/5 years. However the watch is giving up the ghost.

Im just trying to get confirmation if they are still available somewhere? Or is there something else similar out there? Or if answers to both of those questions are no, does anyone have one that doesn’t use it, or didnt like it and are willing to sell it?

Thanks guys:+1:

Hi, @Dubdave I have no experience with any BlueJay watch. The website has the BlueJay U3 watch, but it is sold out.

As to other watches, my experience is with the Apple Watch 6 which is the oldest model still able to connect to Dexcom. I am not a fan of the Apple Watch, but I am used to it.

Hi. The advantage with the bluejay is it can be used as a collector only without the need to be carrying a phone with you. I mainly used it this way while out training. Couldn’t be bothered carrying a phone with me

Hi @Dubdave,
The BlueJay has not been available to purchase for a while.

But since the G6 is being discontinued, it probably does not matter. One way or the other, it’s going to be obsolete.

On the other hand, once everyone is forced to migrate to the G7, the Apple Watch supposedly will work with the G7 without carrying a phone around. I have heard that, but I have not confirmed it personally. Others might know.

Yes, you can pair sensor direct to watch with G7.

Thanks Eric. I was asked did i want to move on to the G7. I asked ‘do i have to?’ And was told no and that i can stay on the G6 for the foreseeable. I decided to stick with the G6 because I was happy enough with it. Then the watch packed it in..

@Dubdave I can vouch for what both @Eric and @CarlosLuis have said. I use an Apple watch (series 6, lowest version compatible with a G7 currently) and it connects to the Dexcom G7 directly without my phone involved. Sometimes it can take awhile to reconnect via BT when I change sensors, but I don’t know if that issue is common or not. I think the watch can only establish a BT connection when the G7 transmits (every 5 mins?) and is in pairing mode (it will shake and alert to the ability), but pairing capability is short lived and if missed, you may have to wait until the next cycle. I don’t know if this is different with the BlueJay. The watch normally connects within 10-20 mins, but has taken as long as a couple of hours (I’m not sure of the reason). I can have it display as a complication showing just my BG #, and when selected, it shows my BG number and graph (others may have used it differently, this fits my desires). The graph can be set to 1 hr, 3 hrs, or six hours by tapping the watch face when displayed. You can also acknowledge low/high alarms on an Apple watch. It spoils you quickly because you don’t realize how often you look at it until its not working as you’ve probably experienced with your BlueJay watch.

Thanks tom, so am I right in saying that the two options are, if the bluejay U3 comes back into stock its compatible directly with the g6 or g7 or the g7 is compatible with the an apple watch?

I believe the Bluejay is a phone from the point of view of the Dexcom.

The G6 can connect with a phone and a pump.

The G7 can connect with a phone and a pump and an AppleWatch.

So I think the Bluejay can connect with the G7 just like it can with the G6 but you’re taking up the phone “slot” with the Bluejay.

G7 + Apple Watch is its own extra “slot”

@Dubdave I can’t speak to the BlueJay or its compatibility, I can speak to the Apple Watch and know the G7 works with them (version 6 and more recent). Sorry if I wasn’t clear before.

I use a G7 and an Apple Watch 10, and I love the “direct to watch” feature. Tom H mentioned that he sometimes had trouble pairing the G7 and his watch, and I wonder if that is because he has an older version of the watch. When I change Pods or sensors, I put the old one in a Faraday box before I change to a new Pod or sensor. The box blocks any signals from the supposedly “disconnected” Pod or sensor. Since doing that, I have had no problems with the Bluetooth pairing of my G7 and the Watch.

I would recommend the most recent Apple watch you can afford and switching to the G7 for the following reasons;

  1. The G7’s “all in one” design means you do not have to fuss with the G6 transmitters anymore.
  2. The G7’s design is slightly smaller. That does not matter to me, but apparently it does to some people.
  3. By using the Apple watch, during activities I can glance at my watch to see my blood glucose without having a phone or a OmniPod controller on my person.
  4. If I touch the reading on my watch screen, it will give me a full screen of my blood sugar, the trend, and a graph of the last few hours.
  5. Having the watch also allows you to track your physical activity (walking, biking, jogging, swimming, weight training, etc.) along with your physical statistics (heart rate, blood oxygen, ECG, etc.)
  6. In an emergency, your Apple watch also can ACT AS A PHONE. You do not need to have a phone or anything else with you to call for help, if needed.

I hope that you soon find the watch that will work for you to keep you active and happy.

I find that a little aluminum foil, foils the errant signals.

How’s the battery life on the apple watch?

I really can’t tell you since I never push it to the limit. Each night, I plug in my Pod controller, my iPhone, and my watch. That is just a matter of habit, so I always start each day with everything charged. That was a habit I got into when we started to spend the winters in Florida because we lose power down there quite often.

I love my watch and blood sugar readings on my wrist, so plugging everything in each night is no problem. When I awake, I always know I will be ready for the day.

We have always done the same.

I think it’s pretty crappy. Even if it is not doing anything, like if I am not wearing it and it’s just sitting there, it won’t last more than a day and a half.

Ditto, and the charge time is toooooo, slooooowww. Maybe the newer models have a fast charge, but I am unaware they do. I would go with Garmin, but the Garmin widget is like Sugar Pixel. It used the Dexcom share through the cloud. This requires a data connection via phone.

Because I have the Dexcom widget on my Garmin cycling computer I am well aware of the problem as sometimes the display is a cloud, i.e. no data.

@Dubdave, I am still using my Bluejay and still love the size and look of it. But it will not connect directly to the G7, so when I changed to G7 I had to pair the sensor with my phone and the watch gets its signal from xDrip+ running on the phone. I don’t find that a problem.

According to the xDrip guru jamorham, the G7 has encription built in that the modest processor in the Bluejay just could not handle. If you look at the FUD archives you can find some threads on what watch others have moved to if they didn’t want to pair sensor and phone.

My own Bluejay is still holding up, although the strap lug broke and I had to fix it. I am on my third (?) strap. Somebody else looked for one for sale here about a year or so ago, but I don’t know if he ever found one or not.

Good luck with yours!

I’ve been in the same boat as you for the last year. Thankfully I had 2 GTS’s to back up my X2 that died. It’s a step back, but the direct to watch is a lifesaver for me where I can’t take my phone most places at work.

Relative to G6 I got the notification from my pharmacy a few weeks ago confirming that they will not have additional G6 stock starting early July and that my Rx needs to be switched to G7. I have a bit of stock remaining and I have to hope the U3 (or a follow-on that is more lightweight in power usage) will come in stock before that time. I’m literally counting the days I have left.

I switched to the Anubis transmitter to extend my supply of sensors.

Here’s hoping a new watch of any kind is released by Bluejay (preferably the light power one) before I run out … otherwise I’m thinking of printing a wrist strap for the G7 receiver which is smaller than G6.

If anyone runs out of G6 and wants to sell / donate their X2 … I’m up for it.

Edit: The GTS and X2 can’t talk to the G7 because the processor isn’t powerful enough to do the decryption from what I’ve heard.

Ok. Its official. I’ve been prescribed the new dexcom+1 sensor. I presume I’m in the same boat that there’s no direct to watch solution other than previously mentioned here, the apple watch??
