The annoying thing about the Dexcom G6 iPhone app is that you can’t silence alarms. (I think the G7 allows this).
I have found a hack that lets my Loop app still get the G6 readings from my phone and display them, but the Dexcom iPhone app stays quiet. Here is what I do:
I start the Dexcom app like normal, and wait until it gets the readings and they appear in Loop. I leave it opened and running in the background.
I then go into my iPhone Settings and then go to Notifications. I turn off the notifications for the Dexcom app. But I leave the Dexcom app running in the background.
As long as I don’t go into the Dexcom app, but just leave it running in the background, it will still give my CGM numbers to Loop but won’t ever beep at me.
If I open the Dexcom app it will squawk at me and tell me I need to turn on notifications, blah, blah, blah. And the numbers will disappear. But as long as I don’t open it, it still provides numbers and I can see them in Loop!
This is especially nice if you are at a movie or church or any place where you don’t want your Dexcom sounding any alarms! You can see your CGM numbers in Loop, but it’s completely quiet!
My pump doesn’t have a silent mode though. When I occasionally go to the symphony I hold my pump in my hand the whole time – so that I’ll definitely feel the vibration before it escalates to an audible alert. You can hear every single sniffle at the symphony!
I have an Android phone but I just force Dexcom to be quiet by turning off any notifications from the app in my phone settings (not the Dexcom app). I use Gluroo so I get a perisistent notification on my screen that way, and I have a receiver so I get audible notifications from that. It works great!
Not sure if we did this or something else for Liam, but we don’t get alerts from him phone, from the G6 app. Glad you found a solution to the loud annoying alerts at all times of the day and night.
That’s a really clever workaround thanks for sharing! I didn’t realize the G6 would still feed Loop data even with notifications off. Totally agree, those alarms can be brutal in quiet places . I’ve been using Not Just a Patch to keep my sensor secure so at least I don’t have to worry about it coming loose while trying to keep everything discreet.
