Vitamin D3 and insulin requirements

Has anyone noticed whether taking Vitamin D3 supplements has helped with BG managment? Does Vitamin D help our body use insulin more effectively?

No, I haven’t noticed any effect.

What’s your theory on why it might? I just started taking it.

No, for me it doesn’t have any impact on BS.

When I was taking 50,000 units/ day rx once per week, I noticed no difference.

50,000 units yikes

That’s the normal therapeutic dose given by prescription. That’s ergocalciforal (D2).

I went on 2,000 units/daily a couple of weeks ago. Seems diminimus.

Not directly an answer to your question, but somewhat related…

Part of the link between vitamin D deficiency and Type 2 diabetes might not be causal. For example, people who have a vitamin D deficiency might also be more likely to have other behaviors that put them at higher risk for developing T2.

There are not a lot of studies that I know of. This one was small.

From this study:

CONCLUSION
Oral vitamin D had no effect on insulin sensitivity or resistance in pre-diabetes patients who were the first-degree relatives of T2DM patients. A randomized double-blind study with a longer duration of treatment is suggested.
