Tech rant

So, there was this glitch with Mobile Tandem Connect app where data was dropped and pump battery depleted. Tandem released a new version 2.8.2 that was suppose to fix this issues. I did the down load Thursday afternoon. I am not impressed. There are still data losses and my battery went from 100% to 75% in 4 hours. BOO!

Thursday morning I did fasting labs for my endo appointment next week. Boy was I surprised. My HbA1c was 5.8% when I was expecting much higher as I have high insulin resistance because of immunotherapy and Covid. Dexcom Clarity shows GMI of 6.2% for 90 days and 6.4% for 30 days.

The only thing I can think of, is my red blood cell count is just below normal. But that has been the case since January and my GMI and HbA1cs have been close until this quarter.

Rant over, just needed to get this out.

Kudos to you for a stellar A1c! I too have found inconsistencies (for the better) in the Dexcom Clarity GMI calculations over the last year. I’m not going to look a gift horse in the mouth though, lol!

I have seen the same problems with the t:connect IOS app losing updates of the Dashboard blood sugar and bolus events display since the 2.7 version. Got worse with the 2.7.1 Tandem update. So your post got me to download/install the 2.8.2 version. Dashboard events re-appeared and got updated for a few hours but the graph updates stopped and the diagonal hashed lines reappeared within a few hours. Today I restarted the phone and the graph is back with all the data (likely pulled from their server). So I will see how long the event updates continue.
Nor what group is paid to update the mobile app but they need to pay some group that knows how IOS works so these bugs can be fixed. Just saw the hashed diagonals reappear without graph updates after less than hour. So version 2.8.2 did not fix these problems.
Bolus using the phone is very convenient so I will keep the app but rely on the Dexcom G7 app for everything else.

Forgot to include an ADA Diabetes Care article on relationship of A1c and GMI.

Note they will not let me include the URL link, so search for it.

This is all I could find, a short article with a conversion calculator

Well, FUDiabetes does not let me send a URL link via a post here nor in an email response!
But if you paste the text in you browser, it may supply the leading characters and work. Firefox and Chrome automatically fill in the first part of the URL but I do not know about other browsers. Try pasting tin he text below.

Acktually looks like FUDiabetes web server turned the text into a link and included some text from the web site!

And 2.8.2 running on my phone overnight managed to cause my t:slim to use half its battery during the overnight 8 hours. I had charged it to 100% prior to going to sleep and it was 50% when I woke up!
I may have to stop using this flawed mobile iOS app until it gets fixed.

Congrats on the surprising HbA1c result though! Did you end up discussing the red blood cell count with your endo?

I like the idea of tech ranting…once started I would probably never end though. All of the D-tech companies seem to go about 95% of the way to having a good product we can rely on 100% of the time, but they never can get that last 5 percent.

Anyway, I have usually found that my lab A1c is lower than my Dexcom Clarity GMI similar to your surprise. Both numbers are a good look at the rear view mirror!

I see him Tuesday.

Sometimes I wonder how many times I need to just get things off my chest and spill everything out to people who can relate.

I’ve never been able to get the Tandem app to work on my phone. I finally turned on “developer mode” to stop Android auto-updates to try to get my phone into Tandem compliance… no such luck. Maybe the battery problem makes my useless app a blessing in disguise.

Key to the update is to delete the TC app, power off and restart the phone, then reinstall the app and follow the instructions to re-pair the pump to the phone using the T:Connect app.

If that’s what it takes, then Tandem should give line by line instructions as they do for updates on the pump.

Instead of doing all of that you might be good if you just clear the cache and data from the app I think

That ft s exactly why you need to delete the app and power off the phone to successfully complete an update. Happens in the iOS world with many apps, and Tandem and Dexcom won’t get the teams with the iOS compotency together we keep waiting and fixing.

iOS TConnect Reinstall

The following needs to be done in an iphone.

  • unpair the pump in the app

  • delete the TCinnect app from the iPhone

  • power off the phone

  • wait a minute

  • power the iPhone back on

  • go to the app store and reinstall the TConnect app 2.8.2

  • in the TConnect app pair the pump (don’t use the iOS to pair a pump, follow the tandem steps)

  • check to see that the pump is connected and loading the data from the pump in to the app.

I gave up and did your fix. 1 thing to add to step1 unpair the app in the pump as well s the app. That’s the only way to get a pairing code from the pump.

This was 5 hours ago, no loss of data and the battery is still at 100%. Thank you.

I had opened a ticket with Tandem and forwarded your fix.
