That’s my other current concern - what do you do to prep for a power outage? I ended up buying a little transistor radio with a crank and a battery … $15 on Amazon. Will probably never use it … (I hope).
Power outages are really scary. About 15 years ago we had one that took out a large region here for over a week. I spent a great deal of time fueling portable generators to power telephony equipment.
I don’t know what we would do if something similar happened now. We have a well. And I filled 5 gallon water jugs at my cousins who were on a rural water supply that evidently had back up power.
Thanks for the reminder! I hadn’t prioritized it because a lot of the past “new” versions didn’t change much. But it looks like this will!
Related to my (off topic ) complaints in this thread: Tandem pump IOB in sleep mode
I am excited about CIQ+ letting us set temp rates even when CIQ+ is active! I used to use temp rates specifically to keep myself from going low during gardening or other long activities. I (guess I?) appreciate commercial AID systems trying to let you remove human input, because I’m sure that does help some people… But as @jim26 mentioned in the thread – the pump just can’t know everything that’s going on. Temp rates will let me, the human, have a little more control again.
I’ll put upgrading on my to-do list and check back in!
I upgraded to Control IQ+ without a lot of drama except it hung at 90% complete on my PC screen while the pump said all done. I ignored the 90% and the pump works fine. Notified Dexcom. They are not using the old update app, but you connect to the website instead.
I had the same issue last time I updated, probably a year or so ago. I contacted Tandem and I think they told me to just disconnect my pump from the computer and call back if it wasn’t working (it was fine). But they said they’d record the issue to prevent in the future…
And they will no doubt record my identical experience too.
It’s like the mythical call back that nobody ever does.
Did anything else change? I guess when I saw it I thought it was just an upgrade to the “name” and nothing really new from a functionaltiy standpoint.
Here’s the press release I found from Tandem: https://investor.tandemdiabetes.com/news-releases/news-release-details/tandem-diabetes-care-launches-new-control-iq-automated-insulin
New features (quoted from above):
- Expanded weight (20-440 lbs.) and total daily insulin (5-200 units) parameters to accommodate a wider range of insulin requirements.
- Enhanced extended bolus up to 8 hours with Control-IQ+ turned on, for better management for meals with delayed glucose rise or prolonged eating.
- New Temp Basal Rate adjustments allowed when Control-IQ+ is active, to address short-term glucose needs, such as exercise, stress, or illness, while Control-IQ+ is turned on.
Thank you, couple interesting features. I need to upgrade.
Here’s a little more info that Tandem gave me during the 5-minute pre-update training.
It reads, “NOTE: If Control-IQ+ is on and you start a Temp Rate, insulin delivery will continue to automatically adjust based on 30-minute predicted glucose values. Here is an example: A temp rate was set at 0 units/hour from 9:30 a.m. till noon. As glucose was predicted to rise, automatic correction boluses and increases in basal rate were delivered.”
The update specified that temp rates can also be set during Sleep and Exercise mode!
I downloaded the C IQ+ update. I was really interested in being able to extend bolus more than 2 hours. I tend to have postprandial spikes normally, now exacerbated by prednisone. Here’s an image showing better control with one correction. I’m pleased.
I have a couple of weeks left in the 5 week taper. I’ve been able to stop using Lantus and IM injections.
