I ended up in hospital with a kidney infection and sepsis. Lots of IV antibiotics and the all clear. Then a month or so later back in the ER.
My right kidney has a 9mm stone sitting on top of the ureter. Next Thursday a nephrostomy tube into the kidney in preparation for a laser procedure to blast the stone.
All this has made blood glucose management difficult.
I don’t know if it because of the oral antibiotics, but my stomach is slightly queasy. Not helpful for BG but saltine crackers are what I can eat.
My urologist told me if the urine flow is stopped the kidney will temporarily shut down with the pain abating. This has happened and I don’t have the pain that wa ranging from 2 to 6 on the infamous scale of 1 to 10.
I’m with @bostrav59 sounds painful even with the comments to the contrary! I’ve had issues with both kidneys! The right side had what was supposed to be “once and done” surgery into it after also being got blasted by sound waves. The left was lasered two years ago and has been painless since. The right was pronounced clear via MRI and Urologist about a month ago. The left has a 6mm stone still in the lower portion, but doc says it’s not likely to cause an issue. All this is my way of saying I feel your pain and hope for the best for you!
I hope you’ve been released from the hospital and are feeling better. Man, you have had a difficult year. We are all keeping you in our prayers for a quick recovery.
I’m really sorry you’ve had to go through so much, especially with the infection, hospital visits, and now dealing with the kidney stone and upcoming procedure. It’s completely understandable that managing your blood glucose has been more challenging through all of this. Wishing you a smooth procedure and a comfortable recovery. So sorry to hear of your problems! You seem to have three factors that make blood glucose difficult to manage: pain, stress, and infection. Do not be hard on yourself. We all know that you are doing the best that you can.
My glucose started to go more wonky than normal a couple of months ago, and I could not figure out why. Then the pain started and about 18 hours later I was in the hospital having an appendectomy. Who knew? At least you and I both can find a REASON for the difficult blood sugars.

This post may be TMI (too much information). I hat the nephrostomy tube put in on the 8th, Some here will remember that I had bladder cancer 2.5 years ago resulting in a urostomy.
With the neph tube I have 2 pouches to collect urine. The urostomy mostly collects from the left kidney as the right uriter is blocked by the stone.
After the surgery there was blood in both. That cleared yesterday, Saturday around noon.
I had pain at the incision site Thursday and Friday which was controlled with acetaminophen. None needed Saturday or today.
Oh, the multiple courses of antibiotics has done a number on my digestive system. That has eased up and I am eating better. My blood glucose and insulin use is better - not great but better.

It is surprising how much an infection, physical stress, and reduced activity can affect blood glucose management. It is a good reminder that diabetes management can become more challenging when the body is dealing with other health issues.
