Pandamania 10k Training Log

well, if it works for me then it will work for me :slightly_smiling_face: and if it doesn’t it doesn’t. thus an experiment. i guess i just don’t see a reason not to try it :woman_shrugging:t2: is there a problem with the single use ones, or a reason not to use them?

I think the single-use lancets are fine, and they do the lancing for you, which is nice.

The reason I don’t use them is because I do a million tests and I’d have to carry too many of them.

Also, with the other kind of lancets, you can do as many tests as you want with them (as long as they don’t bend). So you don’t have to worry about running out. You just re-use it!

Of course use whatever works most conveniently for you. I commented only because in the beginning I thought I was supposed to use alcohol on the finger and a sterile lancet to avoid infection. That turned out not to be true… I don’t know what Eric does these days, but in the old days he invented this to make a lancet safe and convenient while running Lancing device for running - One ring to rule them all

Yep, I still use it!

And one improvement I made is that I am now using a thicker gauge lancet to prevent them from bending!

Why did I just get an image of Eric with an ice pick strapped to his arm.

You are close!

I got 26 gauge. They are meant for pets.

as long as there’s not a reason not to try them, i will give the single use ones a go and report back! worst case is it doesn’t work or isn’t strictly necessary: i’ll find out how i like it once i try it. i think (know!) that @Eric, animal that he is :wink:, runs much longer durations than i do, so i don’t think i will need as many lancets per run as he does … but we shall find out! lancing done for me is good too, since i can be a bit of a weenie about committing… still new at this…also everyone around me will know when i’m testing cause again i’m not totally used to this yet and every stick is accompanied by a reflexive and very audible ā€œ$&@%!!! ow!ā€

I hope that’s just an anticipation/mental reaction. I rarely feel pain from a lancet. The three tricks I use are (1) side of the finger, not on the fingerprint, (2) very shallow setting on the lancet device, and (3) really thin lancets - 33ga.

i use pretty small ones, but yeah it actually does kinda hurt. the yelps are sincere :grimacing:. i will try aiming more at the side and shallower and see if that helps, thanks! i have a pretty high pain tolerance for ā€œbig owiesā€ like breaks sprains etc, but am sort of a wimp on smaller owies. and my fingers seem pretty sensitive to pain compared to the rest of me :disappointed: thank you for the suggestions to reduce that!

One thing to add to @bkh’s list (which is very good by the way!), the pinkie and ring finger seem less sensitive to pain.

Go really shallow. The blood doesn’t have to flow out all by itself, it’s enough to make a little hole so that milking the finger with the other hand brings out a drop. Deep hurts.

yes, yes it does :sweat_smile::+1:

Hi @panda,
I want to mention something that might help you - not only with your race, but just for general health, well-being, metabolism, and BG management.

I apologize for bringing this up. I don’t want to get in your business.

But since I’m giving you workouts to help you achieve your best, I want to mention this too, because it is something that can be a factor. :open_mouth:

I know sometimes life gets in the way. But these 5 hour nights are detrimental in a lot of ways.

I would love to see an 8 or 9 for your hours every once-in-a-while!

Sorry for bringing this up. :grimacing:

i just got off the phone with my doctor: orders (assuming insurance doesn’t pick a fight) are in for humalog kwikpen jr and/or vials (this is insurance dependent, we shall see whats covered…).

thank you all for putting me on the half unit/dilution track!!! also, i just want everyone to know, the doctor told me that 1) she’s never had anyone ask for half units before, and 2) she has never had an ā€œelite athlete t1 patientā€ before, so i am printing off a badge right now that says ELITE ATHLETE and i’m gonna pin it to myself and wear that label everywhere forever :rofl::rofl::rofl: i’m elite, y’all, the doctor said so! :joy::wink::rofl:
