Logo

I have no real ideas for an actual symbol either I just think that the “unlimited” concept is what potentially sets us apart… it’s easy to come up with symbols of diabetes… syringes, pumps, bg meters, cgm traces etc… I just think that those aren’t necessarily what best symbolizes what we are trying to market here… that’s where it becomes challenging… how, with one single easily recognizable symbol do we capture the concept of diabetes and unlimited… this is where we need creativity and artistically skilled people

I’m just messing with you, @docslotnick. I know what we’re going for is “message” over images…I’m just not sure that our intended messages are on the same page right now. Will give it more thought.

My opinion in the order of “importance of message” should be

  1. UNLIMITED diabetic (ideal) OR
  2. UNLIMITED OR
  3. Diabetic

Great idea, but I don’t see a license granting use in derivative works. :frowning:

Promote the symbol

We encourage everyone to use the blue circle as a reference to diabetes and the millions of people affected by the disease. We welcome the use of the logo in publications: magazines, video, online information, etc.

The symbol may not be used without prior permission by IDF. It may not be used:

To promote or refer to anything other than diabetes

  • As a quality label
  • For merchandising or any other form of commercial aim
  • While IDF holds all rights to the diabetes symbol, we can provide permission for merchandising carrying the diabetes symbol on a case-by-case basis. You can submit your proposal to communications@idf.org. Grounds for permission are (amongst others):

Type of organisation

  • Form of distribution of the material
  • Examples of how the blue circle can be been used:
  1. On posters
  2. On t-shirts
  3. Flags
  4. Pins

Not too excited about using a generic logo as a part of ours. That circle is not really “us”.

Please keep in mind that a favicon is 16 x 16 pixels. The simpler, the better.

Maintaining a unified, at-a-glance recognizable look should be paramount.

Re-worked the middle finger concept to include “diabetes” in it…

This is saying I’m unlimited (f you)
and diabetes (blood drop)

Both concepts in a simple image.

But we may offend some people I guess…but I love the idea, personally. (I’m a fan, @Sam!!)

I know I said I was done for the night…but my show went off (Morgan Freeman’s “Through the Wormhole”…love that show)…and I was thinking how to get diabetes in the finger pic then it STUCK ME! hehe

Also, I know we’re not creating images…but it’s easier for me to do this than to try and explain this image (or the concept of the image.) So shoot me.

Nite all.

I hear your point. My question is: how do we represent the (pesky) diabetes message?

Designers can come up with all kinds of symbols for unlimited. But they need feedback on how to represent diabetes. So what I am asking here is:

What could represent diabetes to you?

Once we have some good symbols for diabetes, then I will ask the community to list attributes that we think represent us. Then I will send both the list of symbols and the list of attributes to the graphic designers and ask them to come up with something.

I already gave you my list of what attributes represent us:

I know you did, and it is a great list! And I hope that, when we are at that stage, more people contribute theirs.

What I’d love to hear from people right now, though, is more symbols for diabetes if there are any. What we got so far:

  • From Harold, the infinite and super hero symbols

  • from doc, the universal blue circle. We’ll have to see if we can actually use it or not. I’ll email this organization to see.

Other ideas? I can’t imagine this creative community can’t find more!!

[EDIT] Collated all symbols

I also provided the “infinity” sign (first post) as well as the “super hero” symbols (see 1st two posts).

I forgot to add this one. This is just another day in the office for @Sam.

I collated all the ideas in post 50 with graphics.

I love the idea of all these pics, I wonder if they could be an illustration band running all through our site header.

  • The hurdle represents diabetes, but it does not stop the individual, he just goes over it.
  • The mountain is something we all climb.
  • The surfer is having to ride the wave, there is nothing else to do, he can’t stop it, he just has to ride it.

And the sailor, that is just Sam.

That should be me – I am the sailboat sailor, not him. He is the big ship sailor. A good image for him, imho, would be:
