so its 5am. just woke up and my BG is 70. right on target, but I took 1/2 a Gtab just in case I start to go low (“better higher than lower,” my endo always says to me under situations like this.)
I am soooooo nervous, but even more so EXCITED!!! I must have gone through my miniature suitcase a dozen or more times with my D check list and thoughts about the clothing and how easy and comfortable they would be to put on and take off (considering I will be held firmly motionless for a while, I had to put back those sexy tight T-shirts and replace them with over-sized Mens Ts ).
I took ,my medications this morning with a tiny sip of water and am jealously watching my dear husband sip from his lovely mug of coffee. I will not be eating or drinking anything for about the next 20 hours. (Last night I did stuff myself before bedtime with Camembert Cheese and a hot mug of Joe. Oh! DO I love cheese, and my husband makes the perfect cup of coffee; and YES, it was DeCaf .)
So despite it being about 90 degrees out, I am wearing sweatpants, a long sleeved T-shirt, socks and my trusty old Birkenstock’s (I just know I will be shivering in that fridged hospital air-conditioning.). Needless to say, I am kinda hot right now, but I know that as soon as I climb into that car service to take us up to the hospital, I will start to wish I had brought my winter coat and a scarf (I’m always cold in the mornings for some odd reason).
Bringing all of you with me. and all of your prayers. Everyone at our Temple is praying for me. All of my friends and family are praying for me. And even I am praying for myself!
so here goes…and the next time you all hear from me, I should be a bionic woman . I will probably be texting Eric and Trying from the hospital, so they can keep you all posted after the surgery.
Thank you for updating us! Yes, indeed, we are all going through this with you, anxious like you, and praying that today will go smoothly and all our prays answered with a successful surgery and swift and painless recovery. We will all be sending good thoughts and hope you can hear them!!!
I texted with her husband earlier today. He said she got in there okay this morning. Started at 9am. It’s a 6 hour surgery, 2 hours of post-op recovery, then another 2-3 hours of monitoring vitals.
I got a text message from Daisy Mae’s husband tonight around 7pm. Here it is:
“ Surgery finished one hour ago. All went well. She was in surgery for nearly eight hours.
I’ll be able to see her at 8 tonight in the recovery room.
I’m exhausted but immensely relieved.
Thanks!!!”
“She is experiencing a lot of pain when they turn her over, it’s expected.
Her surgeon stopped by early this AM and said the operation went very well. He actually wants her out of bed today and walking.
I’m headed to the hospital soon.”
“She was unbelievable today, Even though she was in excruciating pain she was able to sit up in bed, then dangle her feet and actually stand for one minute.
All that in less then 24 hours after an 8 hour surgery. Even the physical therapist was amazed.
It is also good to know that their is a great diabetes team at Mount Sinai Hospital.
I’m convinced she’ll be back in the pool swimming by January - that’s hoping they don’t shut the Y because of this Delta Variant”
Here is tonight’s conversation. I didn’t want to bother her, so I was texting her husband. I will give her a call tomorrow (Friday). It sounds like she’s ready!
