I had a Dexcom G7 failure today. I called Dexcom for a replacement and the rep asked if I used an over patch. I told him I have been using Dexcom sensors for over 10 yrs and have never needed to use an over patch. Not sure if I didn’t hear him correctly, but I thought he told me that Dexcom strongly recommended that everyone use over patches? He made me feel that next time I wouldn’t qualify for a replacement if I didn’t use an over patch. Is this something new?
Sounds like you use overpatch to me!!
I think it’s new with the G7, there is one overpatch in the box with every G7 sensor and with G6 we had to request them separately. My assumption is they expect it to be needed, so I use one every sensor.
Question: Do you use the provided Dexcom G7 Sensor Overpatch?
Answer: Suuuuuuuure.
I always use one.
Honestly it works really well.

I appreciate the sarcasm of everyone
, and it’s an approach if Dexcom actually tried to enforce such inferred policy. I’m on G7 and have used its included overwatch (thanks to Dexcom for that!) exactly twice. I’m fortunate I have no reaction to the adhesive and find the small ring already attached to the device so sticky I sometimes have issues with removal. I keep a few of the overmatches “just in case”, figuring with water exposure or sweat it may be needed, but the situation has come about. Unless the issue involves a loose patch or getting ripped off, I don’t think Dexcom stands a chance of enforcing the policy @EOS perceived or the tech rep inferred.
