This happened at their investor day on 5/14/26. Yesterday Dexcom stock was the top gainer on the NYSE. That’s exciting. I don’t think the G8 will come out in time for all of us G6 die-hards to avoid the G7 altogether. I think launch is mid-2027 and they are retiring the G6 in mid-2026 (coming right up)
That’s interesting. I’m looking forward to it. I’m not a G7 hater, but I view it as disappointing —some improvements, some drawbacks compared to G6.
I’m curious about Dexcom touting the size of the sensor. Is the size of the sensor a big deal to anyone? I can see that the lower profile of the G7 compared to the G6 is an improvement in that it’s less likely to get jostled by a doorframe or something. But, are others looking for more miniaturization? I’d choose stronger Bluetooth over a smaller sensor. To me, it’s small enough that it doesn’t bother me
Same. The G5 and G6 weren’t a factor to us at all, relative to the size of them. Fixing the sensor disconnects, increase range, etc, all be preferable by us as well.
Agree, not worried about the size of the G8. In fact, I’d wonder if the smaller footprint would make it more difficult to stay on? (To be fair, I’ve really had no trouble with the G7, even without the overpatch.)
As an “older person” with thin skin, it hard to pull off. But the over patch - sheeesh it takes skin with it. I now use another product. Every time I have surgery I tell the docs to pull the tape off slowly! When I had back surgery 9 years ago the resident thought he would save me the pain and just ripped off the bandage. It took longer to heal than the incision.
@daisymae@allison snd @Mikey417 I use Goo Gone bandage remover. I put some on a paper towel rubbing around the pad at least 5 minutes before attempting to remove. This has eliminated some really ugly purple splotches and skin tears.
I started using this stuff with G6 , but G7 is like Gorilla tape.
I have a girlfriend who has this exact problem. I’ll tell her about this. Luckily I dont have any consequences from the peeling off. Its just a challenge.
@TTnyc My main concern with miniaturization is whether the antennae/BT connection will be impacted, followed closely by the battery life the size allows. I attribute, rightly or wrongly, some of the disconnection issues with G7 are attributable to the antenna incorporated in it as well as some, if not all, of the life length issues reported. If those are overcome, I’d say the smaller the better, with in reason.
I find it interesting Dexcom has already said an overpatch will be needed with the G8. I heard the same about the G7, but have reported here and elsewhere I don’t need to use one with the G7, in fact, I have some issue getting the G7 adhesive to let go when I need to change it. BTW, @Allison , I’m 71 and and the G7 hasn’t ripped my skin as yet. Hopefully that won’t change with the G8, though I hope Dexcom is able to find a fix that make it ok for those with adhesive sensitivity without making it a problem for those like me.
Thanks CarlosLuis. Always on the lookout for a new more improved and helpful product. Although I mentioned that taking off the G7 is a challenge, I am still able to remove it without much hassle and absolutely no skin irritation at all. (lucky me!
“Dexcom’s next-gen G8 CGM is 50% smaller than the G7, last 15 days, and use self-adapting tech designed to improve accuracy. The company also teased future multi-analyte monitoring for potassium and ketones.”
I’ll be looking forward to hearing some user reviews. I switched back to the g6 for the summer just as I was getting the hang of the g7— some hoping for improvements here. The G7 had some pros and some cons. I’d be happy with more pros than cons in the g8
