COVID Vaccinations causing Eye Issues in Children? Or is it just Coincidence?

We are next going to take him to a dermatologist and then will take him to the nearest children’s hospital.

If anyone has any ideas what this could be I’m open to hear all possibilities.

I’m sorry Liam is go through this. I haven’t been following this post as a lot of COVID posts turn political and I tend to ignore (for my own sanity).

It seems like you covered most of the potential causes. Has a food allergies been considered?

I’m sure this is very frustrating. Hope you get it figured out.

Allergy was considered by the opthalmologist so he was on eye drops for allergies and another as an antibiotic eye drop. Neither helped. He’s been prescribed 5 or 6 different eye drops so far and nothing seems to be helping.

Beyond frustrated at this point.

My niece is being treated for rosacea in her eyes by a specialist opthamologist. I know…kinda weird…

Thanks @CatLady ! I stumbled across this yesterday as i was searching the internet for things that this could be. I will bring it up! Seems a lot of the symptoms are the same.

Thanks!

I must have done the same search, because I stumbled onto that as well. Hopefully the dermatologist will have more answers for you! :crossed_fingers:

If you don’t get an acceptable answer this time around, it may be time to find the best larger children’s hospital in your region and get your kiddo there where the doctors have access to a lot more patients, and therefore see some of the uncommon stuff on a regular basis. I would be so frustrated were I in your shoes, but it clearly isn’t something common or the physicians that have already seen him would have been on it. Your description of his symptoms and reactions being so detailed says to me that you are giving your physicians the best shot of diagnosing him.

That was exactly our plan, Chris. We are going to try Dermatologist next and if that doesn’t help, we were planning on doing just what you suggest with the nearest Children’s hospital.

Here is hoping you don’t have to implement that plan.

@ClaudnDaye How’s the little man doing? Hope he’s well and back driving you nuts as all kids should!

Thank for asking @TomH! Three days ago he was placed on another eye drop (Bepreve), only one per day in each eye, and since we started that drop his eyes have stopped watering and redness/eyelid swelling is gone. If he is experiencing some allergic reaction we just need to lock down what it may need so that we can remove it from his presence, if possible. I’ve never seen allergies cause that level of redness, eye lid swelling and extreme watering.

Glad to hear things are getting better and hope for no recurrence!

I knew a kid that went thru the old style matrix on your back testing, little pin pricks of all sorts of things. He looked like one giant angry red welt in less than 30 minutes! It was more a question of what he didn’t react to instead of what he did!
