My endo appointment is in two weeks and I’ll be upgrading to a G7, but also have the option of getting off of the Omnipod 5.
I’ve had an uptick in faulty pods (high leakage) over the past few months and it’s frustrating enough that I’m considering changing. I really liked being tubeless and it seems like Mobi is the only other option on the table right now (I discovered the V-Go while writing this post but it seems like it’s a flop?).
Has anybody gotten onto the Mobi system yet, and are you enjoying it?
Leaking isn’t necessarily from faulty pods but can be due to your tissue’s response to the cannula. There are workarounds if you prefer to stay tubeless (search for “tunneling” on this list. I’m currently experimenting with U200 to reduce bolus size), but it depends whether you feel the extra effort is worth remaining tubeless.
Switching to Mobi will give multiple choices for infusion sets and you might find a set that doesn’t leak or at least not as often as Omnipod. Also keep in mind that Mobi is just tSlim in a different form factor so the vast amount of feedback about using tSlim on this forum and elsewhere applies to Mobi as well.
I’m on the Mobi. The software is the same as the T-Slim. However, since the Mobi has no screen, everything is managed through you iPhone. That includes cancelling alerts and alarms, bolusing, changing out cartridges, infusion sets, and CGM sensors. The phone app is great. but you have to be OK with being tethered to your phone. there is a button on the pump itself that you can program for # of carbs or units of insulin for quick bolusing. That is the only thing you can do without the Mobi iPhone app.
Also note that you can set up the app on another iPhone if something goes wrong with yours. I downloaded the app onto my husband’s phone. Your iPad can be a backup as well. The other thing to know is that the app uses face recognition for security purposes. Maybe that’s why you need to have one of the newer models?
I really like the Mobi! I wouldn’t go back to the T-Slim or Medtronic.
I love the size and weight. I have always just put up with having it stick out from my waistband or somewhere- and now it it is so small it just doesn’t show.
I like using the iPhone app to control the pump. I thought I wouldn’t, but after a few weeks of getting used to it and getting used to the screens and menus, I prefer it. It’s a very nice app.
Once I got used to changing the cartridge, that is easier, too. It took me a few times to feel comfortable changing g the cartridge without the YouTube video.
All the same tubings and infusion sets work with the Mobi. I use the same 23” truesteel or 43”varisofts that I used with the t-slim. I don’t like the idea of the pump sleeves and 5” tubing attached to your body. It seems like a great idea for little kids but I like to clip it my waistband or put it in my pocket.
I am using the G7 with the Mobi, but you can use the G7 or the G6. Usually it works great snd communicates well with the pump. But the G7s seem more finicky than the G6. That feels complicated to me sometimes, trying to figure out what’s wrong. Worth another post about that, but basically I am very happy with the whole set up and if I run into the rare problem, Tandem technical assistance has always taken care of me.
The alarms and vibrations are straight from the pump, and are louder than the t-slim and cannot be made softer. The sound is softer if the pump is kept under your clothing, as opposed to clipped on the outside of your clothing. The beep setting under “pump Sounds” in the Mobi app is softer than the vibration setting. I turned off all G7 alerts & alarms. You can, of course, set high and low CGM alerts (on the Mobi app) to your choosing, and choose whether to have them repeat, and if so, at what intervals.
You can snooze an alert or alarm by quickly pressing and releasing the pump button three times. This is something you can set up on the Mobi app under “pump sounds snooze.” Or if your phone is with you, you can dismiss any alert of alarm through the Mobi app. You can also et all beeps and vibrations to OFF through the Mobi app, but again, the low 55 is the exception.
I am retired and do not have the concerns that a surgeon would understandably have! For some people, the learning curve for setting up alerts & alarms to their satisfaction is a deal-breaker. It depends on how much the pump user perseveres in learning all the options available, and how comfortable they are in navigating iPhone apps. The Mobi manual has a ton of information if one is able and willing to read it. Obviously, the fact that there is no screen on the Mobi creates different challenges and has its pros and cons.
Your pump will continue to operate Crtl-IQ even away from your pump because of your Dexcom
CGM talking to it all the time and the basal profile you have programmed. But if you want to give yourself insulin without your phone, or snooze alerts & alarms, you would use the pump button. You need your phone (or a backup with the app installed) to load a new cartridge. The manual has all of this information and is easily accessible online.
