My Dexcom G7 app is hectoring me to update, just started doing this today. I am using iPhone SE, ios 18.3.2. Has anybody installed this update yet and if so, how is it working out so far?
LoopandLearn.org reports iOS 18.4 works fine with both Loop and Trio as well as the G7. You should be fine.
Thanks @TomH…Here’s the Dexcom update for iPhone notification I am hesitant to install right away, planning to wait a while.
I got that prompt on my Android phone too. Apparently this update does make the app compatible with Android 15 (per Dexcom G7 Compatible Phones and Smartwatches | Dexcom) – I’ll finally be able to update my OS! Now to see if it will truly work…
@John58 I think I misunderstood your intent, my apologies! I thought you were referring to the iOS version update, vice the G7 update. Sorry for the confusion on my part. I’m on iOS, vs the Android @RachelMaraii refers to, and both a new iOS version and G7 app became available within the past several days. I’m using the new version of G7 app (2.8) with no issues; I haven’t updated the iOS version (18.4 from 18.3.2) because I’m currently on a ship in the South Pacific and didn’t want to go thru the time required for the update on an unknown internet connection, plus my reading is the iOS version doesn’t offer any earth shaking improvements to what I have (the leading upgrade is a few emoji’s apparently). I’ll probably update iOS when I hit New Zealand in a day or two.
Seems like it’s a good idea not to update your OS yet! The Dexcom Compatibility page says the highest supported OS is iOS 18.3.2 and Android 15.
I appreciate the info, seriously I do! However, unless it’s an explicit warning from a manufacturer, I don’t pay much attention because at one point Dexcom said they’d only tested with iOS 12 and 14 or something close to that was the current version! From your post, I take it Dexcom has moved their testing protocol a bit. I usually wait a “respectable” period for main updates (x.0 or x.x), but for others I don’t worry much; though if I was helping a child with T1 I’d probably be more circumspect. As with most things, this is NOT a recommendation for others, I respect others who do differently!
I noticed a new feature which might be nice in the app update! (Or I wasn’t observant before?) You can set up and schedule two different alert profiles under Profile / Alerts.
For example, I’m creating one alert profile for daytime and one for nighttime. There’s so much more variability during the day with food and activity, so I personally want my alerts to be more “cautious” during the day so I can catch things before they’re a problem. I also want my nighttime alerts to be sound alerts, whereas my daytime alerts can be vibration. I could see a weekday vs. weekend alert schedule being helpful for folks too.
I updated the dexcom app quite awhile ago and hadn’t noticed anything strange.
But… I just updated to the newest version of IOS last week and have seen the G7 app miss a reading.
I was watching the app because I was treating an impending low. It totally missed a reading without any lost connection notification. There was nothing wrong with the G7 sensor itself because my Omnipod 5 controller showed the reading. The app did register the next reading 5 minutes later. The reading it missed was 75 and my low alert on this day was set to 90.
I think this has happened a few times and it has troubled me. I’m going to set my alert higher than I’d like for the next couple of months for safety reasons.
I use 2 profiles, but I think the opposite of how you describe. During the day I shut off all none required notifications since I’m awake an can monitor. At night I turn them on since I’m sleeping and won’t be monitoring.
I just updated to Android 15 last night, and I have noticed that today too. I wish I could screenshot! My pump is still picking up all readings seamlessly, but the app has missed about two readings per hour today (so only showing 10 readings per hour instead of 12).
ETA: But, my sensor is also currently in the 12 hour grace window, so that might account for my issue.
Thanks for the heads up. I’m going to wait a while longer since I’ve finally got a decent rhythm going on the BG basal/bolus carbs+exercise balancing act using the G7. Would not want to risk screwing that up with an update.
I’ve been watching closely the past few days and the G7 app has definitely missed several reading without providing a lost connection notice. It will just produce 2 numbers after 10 minutes.
I also just got a notification from the app yesterday stating that it stopped working and needed to be completely reinstalled. I did not do this and restarted the phone instead and it started the readings again.
TomH: Welcome to NZ (~5 days ago). I hope you enjoy your visit “down under”.
Mine’s still dropping about 2-3 readings per hour. But luckily I haven’t had bigger issues like you have! Hopefully your restart is still keeping it going!
