Is this a basal (long) insulin, or for bolus?

Interesting stuff, but they could have provided a little more information about this new insulin formulation.

They say that HDV is designed to be combined to mealtime insulin. They call their product “HDV-Insulin Lispro (HDV-L)”, so Humalog is going to be the actual insulin component of this new formulation and they’re adding HDV to it.

I signed up to discuss, no clinic in my area, so possibly not. I’m not sure if they’ll appreciate my use of Trio or Loop with my pump and CGM. From reading the material, it seems it will require two insulin portions, whatever you’re using (possibly Humalog, per @Boerenkool) along with their HDV-L from a separate injection. It might be doable with my setup, plus theirs, or might require a new lash up. I’d be willing to try the former, not sure about an entirely new set-up. We’ll see.

@TomH, from what I read, I doubt they will let anyone with any type of automated adjustable insulin system do the test. It defeats the purpose of what they are testing, and does not allow them to measure.

They want to start with a baseline, and then increase your dosing, to prove that their new insulin formulation causes uptake in the liver and less hypoglycemia, compared to normal insulin.

So if the study works, half of the people in the double-blind are gonna have a lot more hypos, and the other half won’t.

Dang, I sure have been low a lot lately, Shirley…I must be in the control group of the study…

:joy:

Of course, that is if they are still trying to prove its effectiveness. If the study is now trying to prove a positive use experience in the general population, they might allow you in there.

It is an interesting concept. Because some of this insulin can only used by the liver, it will allow the liver to use a portion of the insulin to store glucose. Instead of how it works currently, where you take a dose and ALL of the insulin is evenly dispersed throughout the body.
