“The best-laid schemes o' mice an' men Gang aft agley,“ Bobby Burns “To a Mouse”

For 36 years after being diagnosed with T2DM I have exercised regularly. It keep me medicine free for 10 years, but even with drugs and insulin, exercise is the mainstay of my therapy.

Well I am finally well from a cold that made me almost as insulin resistant as prednisone :sob: So today I spent the morning getting my regular road bike fit to ride this evening. I mowed the front yard this morning and all day it was clear.

5:30 I made sure the tires were aired up, and I noticed the sky was completely overcast. I even felt a few drops on my bald head. I checked the weather. Storms were predicted to start at 6. Ah well, I said I guess I can do a virtual, Zwift ride in the bedroom. Got in 10 miles watching Spider Noir with Nicholas Cage.

I would rather have been out on the road, but it felt good to get my legs pumping.

Here’s my Zwiftmobile, sorry for the sock.

Well, the rain never came. But here’s to the mice.

Got two short rides of 30 minutes AM&PM, 1st on the ebike 2nd on the regular road bike. It felt good to be out on the road.

One big plus in riding outdoors is stress relief. Somehow my mind lets go of worries and things right themselves.

@Eric and @bostrav59 do you find the same?

@CarlosLuis, yes. Definitely.

For me it’s the time when I can figure out the most things. I can think on a different level. There are no distractions. It’s a time when I can be happy with myself and what I am doing.

And nothing else matters during that time.

Same! Unfortunately today didn’t go that way though. I only ran a quick 5 miles outside due to time constraints. It was a trail run in 100+F temp. Finished with a BG of 94. Great. However, it just continued to climb and climb up to 168 and bolusing didn’t seem to make a dent. This is not normal. I thought perhaps the pod was bad. But I’m starting to come down now, 143 at 3 hours later! Crazy!

@CarlosLuis Did you see that Rouvy merged with Zwift?? I’m still using Rouvy which I love but of course prefer outdoor rides!

Maybe if they come up with a bundle. I really can’t justify paying for 2 subscriptions. Maybe if they bundle it at $20USD I’ll bite.

Haha, yep, me, too! I think Rouvy is/was around $14 USD. I rarely use it in the summer months though. I think there is or used to be an option to suspend during the summer…

There was a famous psychologist with an incredible name – perhaps you’ve heard of him:

Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi

He coined the idea of “flow”.
I will often get into a state of flow on my bicycle. It is a way of relaxing, although as @Trying pointed out, today on the East Coast it is too hot to achieve much flow for me - I’m too conscious of the heat when riding. I had to drop something off at UPS, air conditioned, and I didn’t want to leave the store!

My eldest son was set to ER for heat exhaustion. He is both inside and out. He builds and maintains electronic sensing and control equipment that goes in various types of vehicles that test crash barriers.

Evidently the PTB decided to have 4 test vs 1 and the Texas heat did its thing. The solution Gatorade:frowning:
