There is something similar that has to do with an experiment where they had athletes swish a sweetened drink in their mouth and spit it out. The theory was that the body would respond to the sweet taste and interpret it as carbs/fuel.
Here is the study. The author is Asker Jeukendrup, who I hope by now is on the top of everyone’s list as the premier expert resource for endurance sports.
