Sometimes, I guess I just need a reminder…

Liam played on the trampoline in the rain today with his brothers…I asked him to turn on his zero temp basal. He had a lot of fun…came inside and for the past 1.5 hours, someone forgot to ask him to turn basal back on…

Liam has Type 1 Diabetes…just got reminded.

Update: He leveled out at 400 and is heading back down now. He hasn’t hit 400 for many years.

Don’t feel bad. BG like that is often a sign that you had a lot of fun!

I am almost 40 years old and think that’s a great way to put it!!

I find myself forgetting sometimes too! Just start eating something with no thought to carbs or insulin. It only takes a few bites though.

I had that problem until I started using the Exercise Activity instead of turning off anything. That now has at timer so it works well for my bike rides. Sometimes I turn it on and leave it on for days or longer. It helps avoid lows, and since the lows all have spikes after them it really doesn’t affect my A1c that much. But eventually I get tired of the lagging response to highs and turn it off again. Right now it’s on…

Hope his blood sugar made a good “landing”!

I use a Tandem pump. The exercise mode doesn’t work very well for me. Turning off insulin on the T;Slim has a time set, default 15 minutes, then 30,45 and a max of 1 hour. When the time elapses there will be an alarm. I am surprised that other pumps wouldn’t have this feature.

Same for me. Exercise mode was pretty much useless for me. I would turn off control IQ and then set a temp basal.

My brother got married on Saturday, so we had a very out-of-routine weekend. I don’t drink much at all, but thought I’d let a little loose this weekend.

Friday night: heavy rehearsal dinner + drinks = almost 400 (I also NEVER go that high) = long walk on the treadmill when I got home.

Saturday: recovering from overnight low, early morning to get ready, leftovers for lunch, anxiety for my talk at the wedding, ceremony at 4:30, decent dinner but a few more drinks = high most of the day

I have been at this for over 30 years and still don’t have it down pat. But I had a good weekend and am getting back on track tomorrow!

I always say, where @Liam-M is concerned that he won’t remember the BGs being over 300 or 400 but he will remember the good times he had. That’s what’s most important. High and low BGs are like money, they come and go.

Exactly. I can’t tell you what I weighed or what my blood sugar was on my wedding day, but I got married and it was wonderful! Even though diabetes is always there, it doesn’t have to have the front seat.

Those moments can hit hard. One minute everything feels normal and then diabetes suddenly jumps back into focus. Hope Liam is doing okay now and that the evening settled down a bit for everyone.
