Parents! The oxygen mask

Put Your Own Oxygen Mask on First

Whenever you fly, the flight attendant always tells you that in the event of an emergency, if the oxygen masks drop, you should put your own oxygen mask on first before you attempt to help others.

This kind of seems counter-intuitive. Wouldn’t you want to immediately put the oxygen mask on your child first?!?

But this is an important rule for survival. Because if you run out of oxygen trying to help put the mask on your child, you can’t help them. You will both pass out, and neither one of you can breathe.

This is a very important thing for parents to consider in the care of their young one. I know this disease can stress you out.

Sometimes parents take care of everyone but themselves.

So I want to highlight this and emphasize for parents - you have to take care of yourselves to be able to keep taking care of your precious little one.

Parents, for the new year please consider making sure you are taking good care of yourselves so that you will be able to continue to provide support for your baby.

  • Eat well
  • Get enough sleep
  • Exercise (might be able to find someone around here who can help with that…)
  • Have regular doctor’s appointments
  • Reduce stress

All these things - and many other things we can do - will help both you, and in the long-run, be very important for your little one. So that you can keep helping them.

Just wanted to mention this as a thought for the upcoming new year.

Much love and respect to the parents for the wonderful things you do every day for your young ones.

There are a lot of hidden nuggets on FUD…

This is an old thread. Over a year old! But it seemed like it might be a good thread to bump today, because there are certainly some parents who have not seen it yet. :slightly_smiling_face:

Love and respect to the parents!
