New Approach to Apple Watch and Dexcom?

Hey everyone,

So I’ve been following the crap show that is Dexcom and Apple Watch comparability for years now. Unfortunately, it does not look like the end is in sight for a time when they will actually directly connect.

Which brings me to my question. As I understand it there is no way to directly connect the Apple Watch to Dexcom G6.

I’ll preface this by saying I’m pretty technical (coding experience, etc.)

  1. Would it in theory be possible to “trick” your transmitter into connecting to a third party Bluetooth dongle of sorts (the transmitter thinking that’s your iPhone) and then bouncing it the signal to your Apple Watch.

  2. This one is probably more practical. I would just really like to not carry my phone while running. Has anyone connected the transmitter to the receiver and then the receiver directly to the Apple Watch? Is that possible, so at least it would eliminate the phone even if it adds the receiver.

Thanks in advance, I’m interested in what everyone’s thoughts are.

@docslotnick my understanding is that would only work with a few specific older (dare I say discontinued) android watches? That being said it sounds like you are the in house expert from everything I’ve read so ill take your advice!

On that note, if I did go that route do you think I could then use the android watch as a bridge to my Apple Watch? Almost like a share kind of thing? (I am guessing those watches will not have the same workout tracking capabilities as my Apple Watch, hence why I ask)

While most of the watches mentioned for direct connection with xDrip+ are older, there are some users who have used newer watches with success. XDrip+ even has an option to incorporate heart rate from the watch. At this point I would probably recommend the Bluejay watch as it is being developed by the xDrip+ developer. It is not an Android, but it does have the potential to add “cores” to make it functional for your needs.

I don’t think so. The watch version of xDrip+ only seems to have the capability to connect to xDrip+ on the phone, and then the phone can relay it to other resources in the Android ecosystem.

Let us know how things work out for you. A way to connect the transmitter to an Apple Watch, no matter how convoluted a path, seems to be a holy grail.

I’ll definitely let you know. This will be my side project in the coming weeks

The vaporware promise of Dexcom directly to the Apple Watch is a bit frustrating. Especially after all the joint Dexcom/Apple noise they made about this combo a few years ago.
