Introduction and request for approval to post survey link

Hello everyone,

my name is Daniel, I have had type 1 diabetes since I was 4 years old and currently use an Abbott Libre CGM. For my bachelor’s thesis I am doing a survey trying to figure out distress levels caused by assistive and human enhancement technologies that are used to counter an impairment.

Following forum guidelines "[**Conduct research among our members without first obtaining approval] (#Conduct)

From FUDiabetes, such as survey links, recruiting for biomedical research, or other."

I would kindly ask to be approved for posting a link to my survey. It is an anonymous survey hosted on university servers (Humboldt Universität Berlin). If more information is necessary, please let me know.

Thank you very much and best regards, Daniel

What a great idea for a thesis. Will you post survey results as well? I am not a leader on this board so can’t approve your request, but if you gave results I would be happy to do the survey (try to keep it short).

Hi bostrav, thanks for the kind words. While the survey is offered in English and German, the research paper will be written in German. If there is interest I could offer to post it and who ever is interested could use deepl or similar to translate it.

About keeping it short: the survey has 34 questions and should take no more than 15 minutes to finish. Intent is to not just get input if people are stressed by their devices but also to what extent and in what situations and being able to figure out patterns this is as short as makes sense.

Best regards, Daniel

Thanks Daniel - I’m not a mod here so can’t approve or deny your request. @Eric is a resident expert. Eric, do you have any suggestions for Daniel, or can you get in touch with a mod who can make the determination about posting a survey link?

Daniel, if your link does get approved, I will take your survey - even tho 15 minutes and 34 questions is too long for a general population survey. Best of luck!

@Daniel-HU if your survey is allowed would you be interested in input of T2s using CGMs or like me CGM paired to a pump?

Not 100% sure, but I think @CatLady and @elver are the only mods right now. So one of them would need to approve it.

@Michel, what do you think?

I would support if you and @elver agree

We need to be sure the survey is properly anonymized.

Did you make that up?

Hi Michel, thank you for the support. elver got in touch and asked for the link and will post it. On the start page there is a link to the privacy policy for the university server running the survey and one specifically for the survey.

Your identity cannot be determined from your responses. Please do not provide any personally identifiable information, even in free-text fields. Your information will be processed confidentially and only for the specified research purpose. The survey data is analyzed in an anonymized and aggregated form, so that no individuals can be identified in the results.

Voluntary Participation and Withdrawal: Your participation is voluntary. You may withdraw your consent at any time by exiting the survey and closing the browser window. Your data will then be deleted immediately. Regardless of this, your data will be deleted no later than February 28, 2027. You will not face any disadvantages for not participating or for exiting the survey. Once you have completed the survey and submitted your responses, you can no longer withdraw your consent, as your responses are stored anonymously and can no longer be linked to you.

Hi CarlosLuis, thank you for your interest. The survey is interested in every person with at least one impairment using some kind of technology in an attempt to deal with these impairments. So from my perspective you would be a perfect candidate.

As a new user I can’t post links, but elver has it and will post it.

For those that who would like to participate, here is the link @Daniel-HU has provided:

I got to the, “Voluntary downgrade” question and stopped; it was both ambiguous and insulting. This is what normally happens when I do these multiple choice questionnaires. I’ve done a few but I don’t think I’ve completed more than about 1.

Thank you for the feedback. I am sorry that you were insulted by the question. I had gotten feedbach from various people while developing the questions but that one somehow skipped us. But with you ointing it out it is clear, that it should have been something like “Have you voluntarily reduced the amount of technology used to deal with your impairment?”.

Would that have made more sense for you?
