FuDiabetes vs. Tudiabetes

Hi, @SAFA1 I remember you. I was Luis123 over there. I found both groups around the same time and was active on both.

I mentioned before that I found that some members of TuD were a bit shrill. It was like, “My way or the highway” kind of vibe. This was not a majority, but I never felt that way here.

I really miss Judith in Portland, but I respect her reasons for not coming here.

Will try…asked to have no resident trainee there as sec told me that endo USUALLY has a trainee with him. They told me they would tell the doctor not to have the trainee there. We’ll see.
I will be assertive (maybe aggressive) as needed to get some answers.

I was in both and found this one to be better for my needs. I think it’s partially because it’s a smaller group of people, many of whom have put a heck of a lot of time into their contributions here, as well as their own journeys through figuring out life with diabetes. It’s sad to see people pooh-poohing FUD!

If you don’t mind, what was your user name on TuD?

Hi, Carlos Luis. I remember you, too, and I am glad that many of the “old” members from TuD have moved to this new group. I enjoy reading what others have done, learning a few new tricks (even though this year marks my 60th year with Type 1 Diabetes), and being around to help others because after so many years at this game, I can hope that my experiences can encourage everyone.

We all just remember to do the best that we can. Everyone’s knowledge of diabetes and the treatments that we can use have changed tremendously in the last 60 years, so I always hold out hope for the future. Hang in there, everyone!

Yes, I can see that, but, as you noted, it wasn’t the majority.

Honestly, I haven’t been a member of FUD very long, but I find the two communities to be similar. I was a (somewhat) active member of TuD on and off (same name). I was sad when it closed, but then I learned about FUD and was thrilled that another community like this exists!

With any internet community, you either like it or you don’t… so you either participate or you don’t. For me, I’m just glad that I have somewhere to go to talk about things, and know that those reading understand what I’m saying whether we agree about how to address it or not. :slightly_smiling_face:

My limited experience with TuD and a similar forum wasn’t great. There was more breadth, due to number of users, but the signal to noise ratio was low, in my opinion. Plus, on those sponsored forums, opinions that differ from the norm are often discouraged, probably due to legal/liability concern at some level.

The signal to noise ratio is really high at the FUD.

I was also sad about TuD ending, but I wasn’t aware of FUD, so was glad to have this great “safety net”.

I think my user name is the same, but am more of a lurker.

I think I asked you what signal to noise ratio was…Did I get your answer? mind telling me again?

I, too, was sad to see the TuD forum close. I was a long-time and frequent poster there. I watched plenty of people come and go over the years as their needs ebbed and flowed. There, like here, was always a core group of consistent participants. It was always nice to see comments made by familiar members, kind of like old friends vs new friends.

I resisted spending my time at FUD primarily due to my preference for the familiar. I just joined FUD a few months back and find it friendly. I miss the old community but realize that time and consistent participation can create that which I miss.

I think that the two communities are much more alike than they differ. Their longer form postings contain more detail and intreaction than the newer apps that have emerged. For the people who miss a wider spectrum of personalities, maybe upping their participation here would “be the change they seek.”

It’s a techie term. “Signal” is what you want to hear, “noise” is the stuff you consider irrelevant. Think of “signal” as the information you want and “noise” as stuff that is irrelevant. Low signal to noise means not much information and a whole lot of other stuff.

I think a lot of people felt that way about TuDiabetes It had such a big community and lots of conversations going. The smaller groups feel different, but there are still some great people around.
