Dexcom G7 Sensor Critical Failure Issue

I wanted to ask if anyone has had any issue with the Dexcom G7 (10 day) sensor upon insertion where the filament does not penetrate the skin. I immediately know this has happened, because I see a loop of the filament through the hole on top of the sensor. I soon after get an alert about a critical failure then I have to insert a new sensor. This has happened 4 times this month.

If this has happened to you, do you know why? I’ve inserted another sensor in same spot (upper arm) with no issue, and I’ve never had this issue before. Maybe it was a particular lot that had this issue?

I’m concerned mainly if I’m not home and do not have access to spare sensors. I always pack extra sensors when I travel, but I don’t feel like packing even more sensors in case this sensor failure happens again for no apparent reason.

Thanks.

@drrps3 The issue is well known and been reported by many. It’s been named “goosenecking” by many and appears to be a manufacture issue in which the insertion needle fails to let go ov the sensor wire so the wire gets retracted and. Comes thru the application hole. Dexcom has reportedly dealt with the issue and will replace the sensor. Hopefully, you’re not reporting a new version of the problem. If you have the box, insertion device, or other info (lot #, manufacture date, etc. it would be good to let folks know it and you may need it for a replacement.

Thank you for the response. Hopefully, it’s not a new problem. I received 9 sensors in my shipment and 4 had this problem. The Lot number was 1825180010.

Stating the obvious, but call Dexcom and they will replace them.

Yes, Dexcom has replaced.

However, new sensor from a brand new lot was inserted this morning. Lot is 1825221005. Same issue of “looping” with critical failure message during warmup. I inserted this sensor on back of arm instead of the front as with previous sensors. Maybe this issue hasn’t been resolved.

I guess my question is if I’m doing something wrong to cause this. I’ve inserted the sensor same way for years with no issues.

Thanks for any help.

Nope. The automatic inserter is supposed to do it right every single time. When it doesn’t, that’s completely on the manufacturer.
