Just had 2, changed at 5:41A and it fell off at 10A, Installed new on at 10:15A, it failed at 10:20A. Waiting to see if number 3 will work. The 2nd one may not have had a sensor lead or left it in me!
Since they changed the adhesive over a year ago I have had no issue with them sticking. In fact, I have the opposite issue - they stick so well it is painful to remove!
I have had issues with sensors failing on day 8, 9, and 10; but, I do not request a replacement unless they fail the first couple of days. However, on medicare this is beginning to add up.
I read that the sensor extension to 15 days is based on a new algorithm they are employing. I don’t know anything else.
Regarding replacements, I wish it were part of the app - so that it would fill in the information in the request instead of having to manually edit (and try to read the SN). If I can I try to take a screen shot.

Yes, that is what sent me over the edge. Multiple failures in a row.
Fortunately for me once i posted the failures stopped. I hope the same for you!
I couldn’t see a response to this so I’ll add one regardless. The hole in the top is where the needle (it’s actually a pointy steel U-channel) goes through to insert the sensor. Blood can certainly pour out of it; I can attest to that.
BLOOD START
The G7 has a separate blood gutter. I am fairly certain the males on this forum won’t faint at the sight of blood so I’ll post this recent picture; those who might please skip the first two pictures.
Both these pictures are of a recent (manufacture date 250201) G7 which worked for ten days. The first picture:
shows the sensor after removal. My blood was leaking out to the left (on this picture); it went on doing this for a while. The second pictures shows Dexcom’s engineering to deal with this:
Sorry; I only spent a few seconds with the lighting but the bloody channel from the first picture is north in this new one. It’s what is commonly called (in sword design) a “blood gutter”; in this case it really does allow the blood from the sensor to expel out into the adhesive layer rather that out up through the u-channel hole.
BLOOD END
So. Now for something completely different that is also incredibly annoying and that I experienced recently:
@jim26 Do you track what lot, series, etc, of sensor you’ve had this happen with? Hope you applied for replacements and got them!
This is becoming more common. I normally report other sensor failures with the online form, but these I csll support. They will send a mailer for returning the sensor. This is the only way Dexcom can track an find the cause of this kind of failure.
Yep, I will request replacements. Wasn’t in the mood last night…lol
Lot number on both were 1824302003. I believe manufacture date was 10/01/2024 in Malaysia.
I was thinking in the past I had the ability to add comments into the form, but doesn’t appear to be there now. I might be mixing it up with something else…lol
Too many forms to keep track of😆
A while back someone reported this issue here or on FUD and Dexcom were putting her on the 3 sensor PIP.
I’ve seen two of these now and I’ve reported every one. I can no longer use the form (I think I’ve been cancelled) so I have to ring up every time. No problem (well, big problem) I’m retired. I insist on sending them back. Take my own sweet time to do it of course, but they take their own sour time to send the replacement.
Excellent picture BTW; that’s it. The needle goes in the sensor stays out. I can sort of understand it because it’s my foul skin it is going into but I don’t understand Dexcom. I just checked with my wife and, thankfully, we don’t own it.
In a prior life I was a product design consultant, and on the one hand I am amazed at the complexity of some of the product designs that Dexcom is able to deliver - but in both the G6 and G7 there are clear manufacturability issues as well.
As you guys may know, I do own Dexcom (have done okay with it). But I recently bought Abbott as well - as I suspect that the Libre has fewer problems (although I don’t know because I use the Dexcom G6).
There used to be a place for comments and also I often got an email asking for additional information or providing an option to do so. I found that really helpful…which is probably why it’s no longer included.
As long as we’re talking CGM stocks….I own Senseonics and will note that it is the absolute worst stock purchase I ever made.
I wasn’t very nice the last time I left comments, so I probably have a note in my customer record…lol
They seem to me to have adopted a very cautious approach. There must have been much pressure to enter the US market internally and now they have done it they have created a new product which, I suspect, is identical to the old. Somewhat like Dexcom with the Stelo. Look, if we changed the colour of the epoxy!
We don’t own Abbott either, according to my wife (rephrased to remove the rude word), “They don’t pay.” That refers to dividends; we don’t buy stocks that don’t make a consistent return. Promises are fine but not on my money.
As a T1, not an investor, I trust the Abbott product more even though I don’t use it because Abbott is so large and has managed to survive the milk formula crisis (I always call them “the milkmen”). The tech bros always have a tricky step up from tech’n’hype to, in fact, selling a product consistently and, uurgh, the horrible part of tech’, maintaining it. The latter is what kills tech.
Since Abbott can sell that much milk substitute across so much of the planet I suspect they can sell their CGMs in like manner. We’ll wait until they start paying dividends, like Medtronic does.
I’ve never known a computer who ever got upset about anything. They seem to have this curious ability to just keep on doing what they are told to do, no matter how stupid or inane; the perfect slave, or, in practice, not. So if Dexcom weren’t using AI to read the comments then they’re history; the beauty of AI is that it can distil 1,000,000 comments down to a few lines, the horror is when they say, “Whatever”.
I have had this happen to me THREE times over my last sensor changes. It is infuriating. I was wondering how many to take with me on a trip - if I need to change my sensor once, do I take 3 sensors just in case 2 pop out? What if 3 don’t work?? It’s getting old fast.
I have a checklist and always take extras of everything. I have made bonehead errors on supplies for trips and it is a good way to ruin the experience.
I always take extra too! Carrying a ton of sensors for a 2-day trip is not ideal though haha
