Choosing a good thread title is important!
Many forum members don’t read every thread. The title is what they use to decide if they will read a given thread. So picking a good informative yet brief title makes it more likely that more members will read and participate in a thread.
But the title is actually more important than that! We are not only here for our own members, but also to help the D community as a whole. Each thread is read by about 100 times more people than there are thread participants. Many of these people find a thread through a search engine. Search engines prioritize titles and early sentences. If we want to help people in the diabetes community find the relevant content they need, we need to make it as easy as possible for a search engine to find the right thread, by picking a relevant although brief title with the right keywords.
Many newer members are not familiar with this need: so FUD counts on level3 members (regulars) to edit titles as needed to make them relevant when the original title is not properly descriptive. Any level3 may edit a thread title, change the thread category, or add relevant keywords.
It is quite appropriate, in terms of etiquette, to edit another person’s thread! But—it is best to do it only when it really is in need of improvement:-)
So pick a good title for your thread! And, if you are a Regular, do be ready to edit thread title, category, or keywords, to make it truly relevant and easy to find!
