Not only are these tiny carb packs cheap and efficient, as they come in three flavors! The best part is, they are each 6 carbs! These little carb packs are one of the best ways to raise your glucose fast and easily.
I’m sure many are aware of smarties but few may be aware that you can buy them in different flavors! Liam brought it to my attention that they come in different flavors… tropical and extreme sour. If you get tired of smarties, it’s a good option for mixing it up
Hooooboy, the extreme sour smarties are fantastic, but they will CUT UP your tongue if you have to eat a bunch! There’s something in whatever makes them sour that does damage to your mouth! (Still an improvement over regular smarties, though!) (and I will look for the tropical ones!)
Even the classic smarties have artificial flavor and color. I did a check and even glucose gummies and tablets contain at least one of those things. Not sure how we escape these flavors and colors and still have fast carbs available in a sustainable way.
The studies I’ve seen link these things to ADHD and hyperactivity in children and studies aren’t conclusive. Any studies I can read to get additional info on this topic?
Nahhh, look, we all do what we have to do. When I’m home I try to drink apple juice for lows bc it brings my blood sugar up effectively. I need stuff that travels well when I’m on the road and skittles and smarties and stuff like that do the trick and they have all sorts of horrible crap in them and that is life these days. I don’t think the artificial stuff is great, but so long as we are not mainlining it, I also don’t think it is terrible.
I think the chemical structure of whatever makes the smarties sour somehow creates a spikiness in the candy that tears up my (delicate?!) mouth! It might not bother other people – but I can’t imagine that it is dangerous. It’s just sort of like eating a lot of really good French bread (and you’re not going to keep me away from really good French bread when it’s available!).
He loves any CHANGE because, as you all know, if you have to consume something day in and day out, it can get old quickly. So, I always like to have 3 - 5 options for him to choose from for those lows because I can empathize with his disdain for eating just one thing forever to rebound from lows or possible lows. Thanks!
CVS used to make a glucose tab without the color dyes in orange flavor but I just looked online and it seems it now has artificial flavors. The ingredient list is blurred on their website so I couldn’t read the ingredients clearly. Disappointing.
I also really like apple juice for really low, lows…There is a massive amount of carbs with limited volume. It gives me some comfort knowing it will pop my BS in just a few minutes.
@jim26 how’s this for gross – I keep an open CapriSun apple juice package on my nightstand and take a few hits from it during nighttime lows and just open a new one whenever I finish the open one… they’ve never gone bad on me and do seem to get my blood sugar to respond quickly!
@Liam-M and @ClaudnDaye I have been meaning to post my quite possibly favorite (there are so many!) low treat (and yes, I have bought this exact quantity – I love to see fellow bulk-buyers!). Starburst Mini FaveREDS. SO GOOD!
Because I know @Liam-M, I’ve gone ahead and ordered some of those Starburst FaveReds Minis Fruit Chews Candies for him. I know the Discord message is coming with a message similar to…“Papa, can we get those?”
@Liam-M, they’ll be here on Saturday! I like the fact that each pack holds 8 servings and each serving is 25 grams of fast carbs! Thanks @JessicaD for the idea!
One purchase equals 64 low treatments! 8 packs x 8 servings per pack.
