This is really interesting.

To me, though, the golden moment is when someone is able to synthesize beta cells from stem cells, either from cord blood, or from stem cells “regressed” from the living cells of an individual. Then you can use the “city of hope” type of transplant, but this time as an autologous transplant of beta cells, with no need for immuno-suppressants (anti-reject medication).

Side benefit – you don’t need to find donor cadavers to get beta cells either.
