Dear Tandem Customer,
Following our communication on March 3, 2026, we are providing an update on the ongoing supply challenges regarding TruSteel infusion sets. While we are working diligently to resolve these disruptions, we must implement further temporary measures to ensure that people with documented Teflon allergies maintain uninterrupted access to their necessary supplies.
To manage inventory levels effectively, all TruSteel users were transitioned to 30-day reorder cycles earlier this month. In addition to this measure, the following changes are effective immediately:
TruSteel for Patients 18+ Years of Age Temporary Transition to VariSoft
Users ages 18 and older currently using TruSteel who do not have a documented Teflon allergy will be transitioned to VariSoft infusion sets. You can follow this link for video instructions or this link for written instructions to help support your transition. Tandem customer support is available 24/7 at (877) 801-6901. We have updated our records to ensure patients with Teflon allergies remain on TruSteel. However, if you have a documented allergy and find you have been switched to VariSoft, please call us so we can correct your prescription immediately.
Once inventory stabilizes, we will automatically restore your 90-day reorder cycle and your preferred TruSteel sets. This update will be reflected in your next shipment notification.
Switching from DME to Pharmacy
The pharmacy channel is currently unaffected by these DME supply constraints and may offer a more consistent supply option. To switch your prescriptions to the pharmacy channel, please call our specialists (see customer support information below) and select Option 3 to initiate a benefit verification. Once our team confirms your eligibility — typically within 2-3 business days — you can have your healthcare provider send a new prescription directly to Tandem Pump Rx.

I got the mentioned email from them on the 3rd and did not worry too much. Now, not only are you going to only get 30 days worth we’re going to send you the Teflon canulas. I switched from the Teflon ones years ago because the frequently bent upon insertion and failed. I have been Type 1 since 10/1979 (Birthday Present!) and now frequently move the TrueSteel around while using it if I get a bad site. This does not give me a lot of confidence in Tandem and I will consider that when next I need a new pump. I’ll discuss the Rx option with them and my Endo.
