To set up Heroku and Mongo (DB), connect it with your Loop, get all the attributes defined correctly in Heroku, build Loop, etc…it is a lengthy process. If you mess anything up, you are left to troubleshoot it. If you go too fast and miss a step, it won’t work and you’ll be on the hook to figure it out (can be very painful…I speak from experience)
If you pay a host to set it up for you, you transfer all that work, responsibility and headache to someone else. They manage it, upgrade it, get it working and are there to help you of you have issues.
You pay a single fee, put in some key pieces of info, and the host does it all for you.
It’s just a simpler, cleaner, less headache-creating and I think economical. $50 annual is nothing to save the headache. It’s all about opportunity cost for me. Was a no brainer to make the switch.
