Omnipod issues massive pod recall today

I’m a total loss. All 9 boxes (unopened) have the same lot number.

When i called, they asked if I had any in reserve and seemed willing to rush the order if I didn’t. Perhaps they can do this for you?

I kinda dodged a bullet. I’m running on NPH for the second month after they couldn’t fill a script for me since January. I just got it filled, finally, last week and was convinced that I had built the best pod stockpile ever. I was still gonna run a portion of another bottle of NPH, just to create an even larger buffer. I was building the largest stockpile of my life. I was so pleased with myself. But it’s a total loss. At least I hadn’t used them.

You aren’t losing them. They are replacing them. You just have to wait a bit to receive the replacements.

Thanks for the heads up. Definitely worth checking lot numbers as soon as possible. Hopefully anyone affected is able to get replacements without too much delay.

I received my replacements last week (same Lot # that you have, @mohe0001). It did NOT include any instructions to return the recalled pods though. I’m wondering if the # of pods are < 60 then they don’t want the recalled pods back? Has anyone else received their replacements yet and did you need to return the recalled pods? I’d really like to toss these recalled ones out as I don’t want to mistakenly use them! Maybe I’ll contact Insulet …

Don’t toss!! The FUD guinea pig, @Eric would take any ones people are trying to toss. :stuck_out_tongue:

I wouldn’t recommend using the recalled pods though! They really do leak and do cause havoc with BG control!

@Eric knows.

Those rules don’t apply to diabetes whisperers.

Eric is welcome to them! I’m online w/ Insulet chat now. Will post an update once I confirm their response.

UPDATE: Insulet will send me a return label to return the pods. Sorry, Eric, won’t be able to send them to you. I’m still saving a bunch of Eros pods for you. I also have a few boxes of DASH pods as backup so if you are in need just reach out. I’m one of those who try to use a pod for the full 80 hours!

They told me they would provide packaging for me to return them to Insulet, and that I would recieve some in a week.

Question: I have a family member is Europe who hasn’t gotten any replacements. If she is on DASH, can I send her some of mine? I feel like wireless communication protocols in Europe are different than in the US, so probably not?

Thanks @Trying,
I would gladly accept any of the old pods. I have been using the Riley Link and old pods almost exclusively for the past year.

It sucks, but it saves me money.

Ok, I wasn’t sure if you were still using Eros pods. I can send you my stash! Probably some have expired. Do you know by chance how long they’d be good for after expiration? I’ll check their dates and PM you.

Yes, bluetooth communication is the same. I use Loop on iOS as many do around the world! Hwr, I’ve not used the Insulet PDM with Dash. I wouldn’t think there would be an issue. Maybe send a few as a test.

I am sooo lucky, only 5 boxes (left) affected. I have noticed more of a problem with my blood sugars shooting up over the last 3-6 months? I thought it was me because I have a problem with site failure and the pods. It could explain why I have had 3 in a row that have to be changed in a day or hours and then golden through a whole box. But this has happened for years with certain boxes so I really thought it was me.

But the odds are I had 9 boxes originally in each shipment with the same lot numbers, because I usually get all 9 with the same lot… but not always. I have 2 batches affected. I have a tendency to grab a different box when I have 2-3 in a row changed out.

But I thought when I pulled them all out with an UDI number I was going to have a lot of boxes because I believe in a back up supply. It actually worked best for me to look at the last 4 digits of the lot numbers.

OMG!! Eric, how on earth did u amass such an enormous supply of PODS? I had 5 boxes that were effected. Just received the replacements after waiting only 2 days.

Marie, I had to go bk to MDI bc ALL of my OP5s were on the recall lots. I was left with an old Medtronic pump (with totally archaic settings) which I tried at first, but then went searching for some long acting insulin in the fridge. ALL I found were some insulin pens from 2015 so I had to call my endo and have her call in a new prescription for Lantus. Oh well. All is bk to normal again. Phew. That stunk big time.

Yes - I checked my 3-month stash and all 3 boxes are recalled. Am a bit worried as I only have 3 pods left to use. Really emphasized this to the person on the phone - what if I run out before the replacements arrive? That would be a big drag! Told them I will call when I start my last one. Guess they’ll have to do something then!

Be aware that many people have fallen back on basal syringe insulin, which is always availible over the counter (without a prescription) at Walmart as N (or, NPH as we used to call it). Fingers crossed for you, but I think you will need the N. Make sure you have a script for syringes.

Only a few states require a script for the purchase of any number of insulin syringes or have a limit on the number you can buy. Most states allow it without any script.

Here is a nicely put together list:
