Omnipod issues massive pod recall today

I haven’t been home to do an inventory in a few weeks and won’t be for quite a while but I did have a suspicious inexplicably high and continuous rising bg and then discovered a wet pod was the probable culprit… it’ll be difficult for me to manage the logistics of a big trade out any time soon so I may end up just watching them extra closely

That’s the recall issue! If you have other boxes of pods on hand maybe switch to a different box if its lot is not among the recall lots. Its really hard to stay in range when an unknown amount of insulin is being injected! Good luck!

Here’s one of the failed lots (Dash):

So you can see that the date is there (after the “U”) but it’s all mixed up; month, then day, then year. So take care; the lot numbers are listed in all the posts above in month order of manufacture regardless of year.

I did a quick scan, after getting confused by the dates (yeah, I have lived in the US since mid 1992 but I still don’t understand the dates!) Unless I missed something (the years being scattered all over the lists) the problem lots of Dash pods run from September 2024 to January 2026.

So my results correspond to yours but you buried Jan 8 2026 in the middle of the list where someone could easily miss it… (I did the first time I read your list!)

Only only got one failed lot, but then I only ever get one ball on PowerBall.

I did have failures consistent with this problem last year, but I don’t keep records of the lot numbers and I was using older Dash pods; my earliest lot at present is 2025-08-25 (in the standard ISO format).

Guess I have to go onto the website now. Good thing Walmart were still shipping me pods from the same August 2025 lot in their new 3 month supply. Sort of good.

Yes, I’ve had a fair few of those too. In most cases I could reasonably conclude it was because of mechanical problems; I’ve often worn my pod under where the seat-belt goes and that’s a bad place to start. Sometimes I’ve even seen a partially removed and bent canula on removing the pod. This does cause wetness but it’s pretty rare, I’m sure I’ve seen wet sites without known mechanical issues.

I had to go on-audio to get my defective box replaced; they were meant to email me a “confirmation ID” (or something like that) after I entered the lot number on the website but it never arrived, not even in spam. The on-audio was useful because, unlike the world wide waste of time, I was able to relate that I had issues that are probably related and the audio was recorded (I double checked) so now they know. I had told my endo too but, of course, all sorts of things can cause that; it’s just insulin resistance. (This is why I prefer the term, “insulin sensitivity”; I’m not that sensitive to it if it squirts out over my skin.)

Haha!! Unfortunately, it’s hard to know it’s happening!

I just received a call from OmniPod but missed picking it up. I hope they are still sending my replacement pods!

Month-Day-Year (MM/DD/YYYY) is fairly standard in the U.S.

I resorted the above list in date order. Sorry about that!

Tuesday I received six boxes of pods. Wednesday I received a the recall notice. Yes all six boxes are recalled. My now recalled pods were manufactured in February. Moral of the story - it is always a good time to squirrel away extra supplies. LOL

I am amazed by the number of people who have decent sized stockpiles. When I was able to order directly from Insulet, I did, too. I paid more than I do now with the pharmacy benefit, but it was worth the price to know I wouldn’t run out.

ETA: I have 2 whole boxes of pods in reserve.

You have a lot more than that with this community behind you. we all do.

Anyone that doesn’t use up that extra 8 hours at the end, make sure to do that! Over years, that makes up a lot of the stock.

I would like to do that, but it’s difficult to always do. Because sometimes it would mean waking up at something like 4am for a pod change!

Is the man who invented marathon running for diabetics getting soft on us?? (joking…joking…)

I agree wholeheartedly with the timing issue (use of grace period)! While I appreciate the grace period, it would help significantly in evening out its use if it was 12 vice 8!

Yes; I’ve always figured it was deliberately annoying. Nevertheless I run every pod that I can to 80 hours (sometimes 81, since the instructions said that changing it within an hour is fine.) The Dexcom (G7) 12 hours works better; normally I don’t try to run more than 240 hours insofar as I use the 12 hour “Grace” period to get an overlap on the sensors (obviously not relevant for the 'pod.)

I get up two or three times a night in any case and often I find my wife watching Korean Soap Operas at 1 or 2. We’re normally semi-awake at 4 in any case (that’s when our most favorite but only dog jumps on the bed

On the other had there are a lot of posters here who have just lost a lot of pods. I guess Insulet now know how big the stocks are, at least they will do if they know how to do statistics (and I’m sure they do.)

What I really wish is that they had clearly implemented a priority replacement program; my single box has not been delivered on time (I’ll correct this post if some harried delivery boy shows up before midnight). I don’t care because I really do still have a 95 day supply; not through overstocking but because the recall hit a few days after my 90 day refill (and the bad lot was in that refill!)

Insulet could have made this a good experience for all of us and, on balance, I think I’d rate it as a mediocre one so certainly a whole lot better than almost every experience I’ve had of US healthcare. It’s one of those, “Could do better.” reports; the ones where the master means, “■■■■ me, the best student in the class, but I am not going to say that because he could do better.”

Very helpful. Thanks! Wiped out about 50% of my supply.

Let us know how it goes! It’s going to be really challenging for Insulet given the number of people who have significant returns (well, I’m guessing you didn’t just have two boxes

Update on my case: I was told on Friday I’d get a call back when they connected Liam’s PDM to his account. Hint - no one called me even though they said it’d take 24 hours (I called them on 5 days ago). Regardless, I called back today and it wasn’t connected yet…apparently I gave them a pic of the Eros PDM and I never received a Dash PDM…I told them that…I told them I don’t use a PDM as a looper, that I just “switched POD prescriptions” and never requested, or received a PDM because I don’t use one.

They talked amongst themselves for 20 min or so with me on hold, then they said management has “approved” me getting the swap out…they’re shipping me 60 PODS. They requested I send them all 90 of mine back and when they receive them, they’ll send the other 30.

At least they agreed to ship the PODs…you all know me by now, I’d have had it no other way…there’d have been some problems if they attempted to tell me I couldn’t get replacement PODs (that I paid for) because of some stupid PDM issue.

Very helpful list. Thanks!

@ClaudnDaye,
I got a Dash PDM which I never used. One of the things I did in my loop build was put the PDM serial number in the loop build as the version number.

So when I call Insulet, and they ask me for the PDM serial number, I can just open up my loop app and read it off to them. The number sits in the settings, and it’s very easy to access.

BTW, I think I have a spare one, I can give you the serial number if you want it.
