Re: HRV/HR, changes in that and other aspects of autonomic responding make up a lot of the subjective sensation of hypos. That said, one reason many diabetics may lose some degree of hypo awareness over time, in addition to acclimation to lows, is that nerve damage is a common complication of diabetes, and diabetics tend toward lower and less responsive HRV/parasympathetic tone over time. That would be another complicating factor in utilizing HRV for blood glucose measurement, since restriction of range reduces potential correlations, so if people have reduced HRV responsiveness, it limits that assessment’s reliable prediction of anything. I can’t imagine that being a useful direction for diabetics who need precision in estimating blood glucose levels.
