This is a a supported bike trip from Albany to Brooklyn in 5 days. Lots of camping. Pretty hard riding - gain of 8000 feet in elevation over the trip – mostly in first 3 days. It was fun - but hard.
Here’s a link if you want to know more …
My blood sugar is well controlled in these environments, after a few early hiccups - or those caused by my forgetfulness. the early hiccups are from over-dosing - as my insulin needs go down with this much daily exercise. But then I’m eating a lot at rest stops - all sorts of carbs. And one day I forgot to dose at all after these rest stop snacks. Then, even with the exercise my blood sugar climbed in quite an alarming (almost vertical-line) way. My conclusion - you have to have at least a little bit of insulin in your system if you’re carb loading, even with strenuous exercise.
Sounds like a fabulous trip, the photo is so beautiful.
Sounds like you did amazingly well in your care. One blip that you know the reason for doesn’t count and actually I’d venture to call it experimenting as you’ve gained useful knowledge.
Wow, great trip!! I would not be able to do that 8000 feet elevation change!! Amazing!!! I’m riding on mostly flat beach paths! So glad your BGs were controlled, not an easy achievement with so much riding! I used an override of 60% yesterday and it worked well during the ride and run but then I went low afterwards!
@bostrav59 You make it sound like something we should all aspire to, whether T1/2 or not; the pics/desciptions look/sound great! The description is far from my military view of “camping.” My wife has always tried to get me to go camping, I told her i’ve done my share, but the descriptions and your links make it seem plausable!
