How much insulin should I still have on board 2 hours after big injection?

And no harm, no foul as far as distracting Eric. I totally understand your need to do that.

I needed a hero… I’ve got my hero.

I did a little test this morning to double check what I told you last night. I woke up about 6:45, didn’t take any insulin or eat anything. I had my first cup of coffee about 7:15 with a BG of 110. Here is my line after 2 big mugs of coffee. There is a bit of a rise this morning because I added 2-3 drops of pure vanilla to each cup (perhaps about 5g of carbs for the vanilla! :sunglasses:

What part of the body is responsible for handling this? Because you have a genius at work… Now in comparison, check mine out. My BG was around 60 to start, I had 3 SIPS of coffee (which I took intentionally to give myself a blood sugar bump) and then…

I stopped at the three sips and gave myself 4 units of insulin… it took me probably 45 minutes to be able to finish the first cup. I would’ve hit a 250 or higher if I hadn’t come to a screeching halt like that. And if I had TWO! :scream:

Any time of day I can use coffee to correct a low. As Eric has pointed out, the only problem is it’s guesswork once I’m outside the morning hours.

And now that I’m thinking about coffee, I’ll begin my preparations…

Me thinks somebody has just invented the next best alternative to shelf stable liquid glucagon.

(Although only works for some people.)

And may require that you buy the good stuff…

The type of coffee makes a difference for me. It almost seems like the beans have been a bit sweetened in some coffees. Not sure, but it seems that way.

Maybe @Millz could recommend the coffee brand she uses, and @Nickyghaleb could give that one a shot

DN, I love beer. I drink it often!

But…

I DON’T DRINK BEER RIGHT BEFORE A RUN!!

So hear me on this! Enjoy your coffee. Drink it all the time, savor every cup. Live life to the fullest and enjoy all the things that make you happy. Sing, dance, margaritas, coffee, wine women and song. Milkshakes! Bacon! Bacon-wrapped-bacon! Coffee! Espresso, Flat White, Macchiato, Affogato, Ristretto, Piccolo Latte, Cappuccino, Long Black, Café Latte, Mocha!!! All of it! Whatever your heart desires!

But when it comes to running, I need you to consider employing my beer philosophy. After!

 this is where I get my coffee. Most other coffee has about the same impact UNLESS the creamer is sweetened (that hits me like a ton of bricks). I stick to Half & Half.

Only one time has coffee made my BG spike—at the beach when the in-laws made it. OMG, I hit 250!! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::crazy_face:

That maybe wasn’t just coffee…

In my case it would’ve been, but i’m suspicious of ANYTHING my in-laws make for me…

So much to say here… Really. I’m not sure, but there might be a little projecting going on here…

So I can have all of those things… just not on my way out the door for a run.

This might be the only part I remember over the days to come…And remember it, I wil.

Yes!

You don’t mind if your brain surgeon has a scotch. Just not right before the surgery.

Dig deep. You can do this.

I can. :slightly_smiling_face:

I kind of thought that at around 1.5 -2 hours, the insulin peaks and then there is a tail and the insulin activity tapers off. I could be wrong, but remember someone mentioning to me that if my BG were still high 1.5+ hours after the most recent injection, it’s relatively safe to inject additional insulin because there may not be that ‘much’ IOB.
