Listen to the interview. He states very clearly why this won’t happen anytime soon. Having to idiot proof the system is another challenge
It’s been standalone in android wear watches for several years now, integrated with xdrip+. It is straight forward to develop.
I seem to recall seeing an interview of the Dexcom CEO where he was actually wearing an Apple watch which was running a standalone app, communicating directly with the transmitter. This was about a year ago. He said it wasn’t yet available at the time.

Heck, I’d be pretty happy if the Dexcom complication on the watch face always showed my BG instead of showing “- - -“ half the time.

That’s an Apple restriction not a Dexcom problem. Apple only allows third party apps to update info on the watch face 50 times per charge to 100%. Dexcom reads the bg every 5 minutes, after a few hours that 50 update limit is reached.
