Well, we shall see as the plot thickens.
I have two smart devices connected just fine. One Android device and one iPhone. The caveat is that, we have to āswitch onā and āswitch offā our bluetooth to gain access.
Hereās our current system. We keep my G5 Mobile App on (my bluetooth on, my wifeās off) all the time EXCEPT Mon and Thu when I have to go into the office. When Iām leaving for work, I turn OFF my bluetooth and turn ON her bluetooth. It takes 5 - 10 minutes for her device to then be found. Then, when Iām driving to work, I can see his BG numbers via her G5 mobile app by clicking on my Follow app.
When my bluetooth is on, she can see his BG numbers via her Follow app.
Also, we have the main receiver at all times even when our phones are swapping between connecting to the transmitter. We do this just fine all the time now.
Also, one additional noteā¦if we are both home and we both want our bluetooth onā¦thatās OK, too and it doesnāt interfere AS LONG AS the primary smart phone has already connected. After itās connected, at least for us, weāre able to switch back on our bluetooth on the other phone w/o connection issues or disconnects.
Spoke with Dexcom tech support and all is not as expected.
1st - The tech support person says the new version of the G5 app (1.7.3) is just to make the system compatible with IOS11
2nd - The tech support person says their system can only connect to two devices at a time, i.e. one smart device and a receiver. That is all. In order to change this Dexcom needs to release the pairing device on their side. This is supposedly due to the fact that there are two communication boards in the transmitter and that is all it can physically do.
They said they donāt know about the timeline on the direct to Apple watch connection.
So currently, we have the choice to connect to the phone or the pump as the āsmartā device and the receiver. I will still do the upgrades to the apple products and see what is up. But I am not confident.
Two simultaneous connections. We have 3 connected just fineā¦but only two of those can be ACTIVE at once.
What is your third device, and what does it take to switch?
See post I just made, above, about our process. 4 posts up.
Nifty.
Nice.
@ClaudnDaye, very clear, thanks a lot!
Too bad it wonāt apply to the G5x, based on what @Thomas posted above
I guess time will tell. All things are subject to change until they are in production and hit the market. Iām sure that, either way, the D community will find a work-around.
Your post is clear. Thanks. This also goes directly against what Dexcom says is required to switch. I wonder how the system actually works.
Not sure, but ever since the Android G5 Mobile app has been released, weāve had 3 connectionsā¦only 2 can be active at one time, but we have all 3 connected np.
This has made our lives a LOT easierā¦because, before then, when only the iPhone had the Mobile app, I had to take my wifeās phone in with me to workā¦lots of great comments about the floral, fragrant appearance of my phone protector/cover.
It has to be a bit more than just number of devices. I tried connecting the Dex Receiver and the Tandem X2 pump with no Smart Device connected. I could not get both the Receiver and the Pump to connect at the same time. The failure was slightly different depending on which connected first. My take from this was that the transmitter is configured to only allow a single receiver type of device which is different then a Smart Device.
@Chris - Thanks for the info on the v1.7.3. The timing is very odd for it to be released the day before the Watch OS4 release but if the Dex Tech was giving good information then it really is distinct from the Watch.
@Chris / @mikep - Are either of you guys going to try the G5 direct to Watch OS4 anyway? Or are you believing Dex Tech and thinking it would just be a waste of time?
(I am trying to decide whether I should give it a whirl regardlessā¦)
Edit: I just read a supposed older quote from the Dex CEO that says they will have to revise the Dex Mobile App for the Watch OS4 then get FDA approval for the revised app. Who knows if that is true. Anyway - I think we will just stick with what we have and not rock the boat. Dex G5 transmitter going to the Dex Receiver and the Apple iPhone. The iPhone then sends it to the Watch and up to the Dexcom cloud where it can be followed. It works. Slightly disappointing but whatever.
THe direct to watch function would be really really nice for me in my line of work and I suspect for many other people where it appears much more professional to glance at a wrist watch than to have to juggle around or even carry around a cell phoneā¦
I hope somebody tried this soon and letās us know the strait scoop
Iāve tried it and no dice. Tried everything I could think of to get the watch to see the transmitter and it wonāt work. Clearly something needs to be flipped on by Dex via the app. Hereās to hoping itās done very soon.
@mikep - Excellent.
Well not that it didnāt work but that you tried it.
I am so NOT familiar with Apple that I really wouldnāt know if it was me or the app.
@mikep, once it works for you, you should do a how-to for all of us, that captured what you learned!
9 posts were merged into an existing topic: Dexcom direct to Android Watch
Then it sounds like itās your ticket. If you can get the phone in range of the watch once a day all your data will be saved to the app on the phone. But you do need an Android phone for all of the initial setup.
@Thomas, I split your post into two to make another thread, hope itās OK:
will do.
Any luck getting it to work?
I just came across this article and it reminded me about this thread. And Christmas is coming, so maybe an Apple watch is in our future?
