This is apparently old news but I just learned about it. California is investing $100 million to make its own insulin and sell it for $30 per vial to all residents of California, no insurance required.

That is fascinating. Why stop at insulin, though, how about electric power generation? If the state is going to run something, there are lots of candidates.

It sounds good and everything, but you can already get insulin for $30-$35 from Lilly and Novo, even without insurance.

You don’t get votes for using existing programs. Isn’t the companies they would be dealing with also the same companies providing Wal-Mart with insulin?
Feels more like a $100M job’s project vs insulin project. That is fine, just be honest.
