Adapter to connect luer-lock infusion set to t:slim cartridge

OH WOW!!!
I am not sure why I am not getting these comments in my email, so I am so glad I came back to see if there are any updates. Thanks SO much! I am now on a mission! Sorry for all the exclamation marks .
BTW I inserted one of my new Orbitsoft sets manually with the tube cut off just to see what it is like. It is so easy to insert, and very comfortable so I am hopeful that your solution is as good as it looks. Can’t thank you enough.

@Margoriebest,
Get some of the marine heat shrink that @CarlosLuis suggested. That will make the connection very secure.

I like the tube-jammed-into-tube connection because both halves are medical-grade plastics made for putting fluid into the body. I wonder if it would suffice just to give the connection a couple wraps with a good flexible medical sticky tape, which should also be safe. …Just because I don’t know what chemicals might come out of the adhesive in a marine heat-shrink tube. I’m expressing simple fear rooted in ignorance of adhesives and plastics chemistry.

@Eric I can also help out with the pump part of the equation if you would like …

I tried all the US sites but I couldn’t find one that posts to Australia, and couldn’t find the product on any Australian site. I found them on ebay and have ordered a box of 50.
I would really appreciate full instructions for what you actually did. No hurry, as it will be a couple of months before I get the Vygon sets.

@Eric , yes I can field test your Franken-fluid connector. Always happy to be your muse.

@elver ,
I can send you back the tandem pieces you sent me that I didn’t use, as well as the micro-bore parts and some heat-wrap pieces.

That’s a much lower value package than you sending me a spare tandem pump.

I’ll have to see how many of the micro-bore pieces I have in my box of stuff. How many do you want?

I can also give you some tips on how to connect the pieces. There are some things that make it easier.

@bkh,
The heat shrink never comes in contact with the insulin. The tandem cartridge tube fits inside the micro-bore. Insulin is never exposed.

Think of it like this. If you fit the pieces together and hold them together with your hands for 3 days, would your hands ever touch insulin? If they did, you’d have a leak and that means it does not work.

In other words, all the heat shrink is doing is holding the parts together. It is not sealing them. The seal comes from it being a tight press-fit.

As long as nothing from the heat-shrink marine sealant can diffuse or otherwise migrate through the tube wall to the inside, that solves my concern. (I was raised back in the era where we were taught that the human skin is an impervious barrier. Over time we learned that all kinds of things can move through this supposed barrier.)

@bkh,
I don’t use a tubed pump, but I’d feel very safe using this setup.

Heat shrink is meant to be inert. And it’s meant to last. I don’t see any way that it would leech into the tubing. Especially when it’s a 3-4 day length of time.

Can you give details of the joining of the tubing. Thanks

Yes. I can make a video. It will be easier to demonstrate with a video.

But it will be next week, I won’t be able to do it this week.

Hi Eric
Would you have a couple spare and some of the tape so I can investigate the ease and determine if it is a pathway I want to pursue.
I can send you the price of the items and post.

I think so. But I’ll have to check my supplies when I get back and see how many I have left.

You mean send you the Luer lock connector and heat shrink? You already have the infusion sets, right?

i have infusion sets etc.

I will make sure I have some ready for when I receive the connectors.

@pbloom209, tell me what you are trying to do so I can make sure we are on the same page.

Are you wanting to connect your Tandem cartridge to a Luer lock compatible infusion set? What type of infusion set are you trying to use?

Thanks!

Same for you @Margoriebest. My solution works for anything that uses Luer lock. For other infusion sets, like the Medtronic or whatever, that don’t use Luer lock, my solution won’t work.

When I am back from traveling I can see about getting you guys a video demo and a practice adapter so you can try it and see if you want to go this route.
