A fun article about somebody trying a keto diet: like D for normals

… just easier

I ran into this article accidentally. It reminded me of us in the first few months after my son was diagnosed:

50 grams a day, which is the rough equivalent of a plain bagel or a cup of white rice.

Definitely not a diabetic. For me, even though a cup of white rice or a bagel is only 50g carb, if I ate either of them I’d be taking correction boluses for the whole day!

Doc, what is your ICR, now that you corrected your basal?

It runs about 3.75 to 4, depending on time of day and how many carbs I’m eating. Far cry from the old .50

Amazing difference, shocking really.

Michel, I now realize how poorly controlled I had been for the past 15-20 years. My A1c was great, 5.5-6.4. SD was only a little high, 35-37%.

But I weighed too much, ate too much, and was taking way too much insulin.

There’s more to staying healthy than keeping Bg under control.
