I just had my first full-blown sensor failure. It was a 10-day G7 that I’d put on 4 days previously and that had been giving perfectly fine readings. Then it died out of the blue. I was travelling at the time and fortunately had a spare and some time to put it on and let it warm up, but that was unsettling. I’ll be packing two spares in the future to give me more of a safety cushion.
It looks like the applicator may be activating or discharging prematurely when the lid is removed. I’d contact Dexcom and send them these photos along with the LOT numbers so they can investigate and arrange replacements.
I did contact them rather than using the online form. They had trouble understanding what had happened but finally understood.
I received 2 replacements and 2 return mailers. They wanted applicators and boxes.
That would definitely be unsettling, especially when the sensor was working perfectly and then suddenly failed while you were traveling. Having a couple of spares with you sounds like a smart way to avoid being stuck without a sensor.
My go bag that is packed in case there’s complications on my upcoming outpatient surgery has 3 sensors and 5 cartridges and sets.
